Why the "Exclusive To USA Only" deals with Backspacer? :(

For fan's like myself who purchase everything Pearl Jam, the Backspacer released goodies is a nightmare! :(

First, Target.com doesn't ship outside the USA. You can't buy that sweet Xbox 360/PS3 Game that's 'exlusive' to Target, also their shirt & Made in USA CD. Instead of waiting from 10club and other's online for a copy of the disc, I bought a copy from Best Buy. The disc is Made in UK. That is weird. Cause easystreetonline.com is selling Made in Canada Backspacer's for 38 bucks, as an import. Wouldn't my local stores, here in Canada, sell Made in Canada CD's?

2nd, iTunes LP Backspacer is only available to USA. Canada too has iTunes LP, but why no release of Backspacer? I was able to download the CDN reg Backspacer download on iTunes. Which included the 2 live show's etc .. I can't complain, but i'm missing out on extra's I would love to have. I'll pay double or triple the price, but why this 'Only USA' jam?

3rd, Ames Bros doesn't ship outside the USA. http://amesbrosshop.com/shipping-policy.aspx "AMESBROS.COM does not ship internationally at this time!" What happened? I was able to purchase poster's from them for year's. Last purchase was for '09 Sub 1. I can't make a purchase not for a Sub or poster's? It's sad that the show's i'm going to where I want to purchase a s/n poster, from the original company who makes the poster, can't ship to my country?

What's the 4th? Maybe all Pearl Jam/Backspacer video clip's up on Youtube.com being 'Exclusive' to USA ip addy's? :( I hope the next Pearl Jam record, doesn't take this path. There are thousands & thousands of Pearl Jam fan's outside the USA, remember that. These 'Exclusive to USA' deals, hurts.

  • as to your cd purchase, it's simple; you bought from best buy. best buy is not an approved seller of the album, thus the 'exclusive' deal with target.....so you shouldn't be able to buy it there, but at indie stores, and/or wherever pj made their international deals with what was it, universal i think? thus your CD being made in the UK, part of the international deal, and thus why it is available at best buy.

to all your other Qs...i just don't know. given this is the first time the band is doing things solo, i am gonna bet it's all a learning curve. i also am sure they do not mean to alienate fans, leave them out....again....it's all a work in progress. good luck finding what you want for all things pj!

and please.....stop the apostrophe abuse. ;)

D'oh! I wasn't abusing, baby! :P I'm just confused as to why these are happening. :(

As for the CD, i'm puzzled as to those Made in Canada Backspacer CD's are selling over at Easy Street. That's kinda weird if Canada (manufactured in Ontario probably) were able to make Backspacer CD's & my local stores don't have them on their shelves.

    but i digress.......;)

my point is, they probably ARE on your local store shelves....your local INDIE stores. you're not going to find em in big box retailers, b/c that wasn't the deal pj made, thus why the made in UK CDs. (notice, no apostrophe ;))....it's all distribution rights.

yea, it really must suck...universal healthcare and all that, how horrible. poor canadians....

i was only kidding. it's a beautiful, pristine country. hell, i live in Ohio, it's right across the lake from there. Ohio is just like Canada except we have more crime and pollution without all the natural beauty. :)

But that deal only applies to big box in the US not big box in Canada :? here I can buy it at ANY record shop, supermarket (grocery store), online cd seller (eg amazon.co.uk has it ... amazon.com only has it as import) and would think it would be the same in any country other than the US

Cursed apostrophes! :x You'll be the death of me!

As for local stores, ma & pa indie stores, nope! I've been to a few shop's downtown here, and they don't have nothing. Though they can order it for me, online? lol

I love the health care here! 8-)

it's a sickness in your bones!
    (sorry...couldn't resist!)

to you and to chime.....i KNOW you can get the CD in any shop b/c you're international.....i was pointing out why maybe he was only able to get the UK disc in best buy, but a made in canada disc thru easy street. b/c of the target deal. i think being on the NA continent makes it more wonky in that sense, b/c we do share some common retailers, and some - such as target - we don't. that's a bummer about your indie shops. you couldn't have ordered it online (not 10c) to get to you fast?

as i said, this is their first go...all learning curve and growing pains. 10c is a small operation and with that, even with the best of intentions...sometimes....unevenness. i think next time around pj/10c will do a 'better job'.....and you won't miss out on goodies, or at least, won't have a frustrating time to try and track down said goodies. with your track record demetrios, i am sure you can get many people willing to pick up what you need/want and ship it to ya.

    and i agree...your healthcare rocks. 8-)

the songs are the same on all the versions, so really why care where the disc was made?

Not really my whole message i'm trying to send. But the fact if I want to buy a Made in Canada CD, it will cost me $38 bucks to buy it from a USA store. Where the record stores here where I live, in Canada, only sell Made in UK CD's @ 14 dollars a pop. Kinda weird if you ask me.

Right now waiting on Amazon's sale of Backspacer SHM-CD release! I got word this morning that it's backordered. That date it was to be shipped out was September 22nd. hmm ..
  • Welcome back D--- good to see you on here again.
Here's a question-- can't you download the RB tracks directly off the site? If you can't, lmk and I'll mail you a RB set from Target. My Target still had 2 copies left the other day. Also, if you need an XL shirt LMK

Side note D, boy would I love to see your PJ room! :D
  • MY issue, and I think D's issue is this...We can GET Backspacer BUT not the same version with all the extra's that our American Counterparts can. Yes we can download the 2 shows, but we can't watch the video clips and stuff that is part of the mulitmedia portion of the CD.
I also think it sucks that we can't even ORDER it cause places won't ship up here...and its not more difficult then shipping anywhere else. WE are paying shipping so it will cost the companies NOTHING.

I'd love to get some of the extra's...target shirt (Small) stickers and that 7" vinyl...but alas I'm Canadian so without an American to get it for me and ship it to me I'm SOL.

Exactly! We can find the Backspacer CD in stores here in Canada; it's all the other goodies, surprises, rarities & gem that all the other countries in the world are left out.

It all has to do with territorial rights. Foreign distributors usually require that distributors/retailers in other regions not be allowed to sell to the territory so that they don't lose-out on sales. There are exceptions often times....some indie stores sell imports if there is no domestic release of an album.

Compare it to a restaurant that rents its space in a mini-mall. Often times, their lease ensures them that the landlord will not lease space to a similar sort of restaurant in the same strip mall. Its all about preventing unexpected competition.

I got mine from a Walmart (couldn't wait for the 10C version to arrive, or the vinyl :? )
I believe it was made in Canada but it didn't mention anything about downloads. Actually there was no sticker or anything on the cover. Will I have access to the vault shows?

To tell you the truth, I don't REALLY care about the vault stuff (where's the REAL vault stuff????) but to Demetrios' point it's more the prinicipal of everything. We should have the same access to the goodies. As completist this is what bothers me.

p.s. Forgot to mention that we weren't able to order the exclusive edition of SPIN either. Luckily I found someone who ordered one for me.

I did too. :) I only got 1 of the 3 version's from Chapter's last week. Still on the hunt for the animated cover Spin man.

I can't lie! I try to be a Pearl Jam completist and to see all these items go for sale, and I can't get access to them, just cause I live in another country, and they don't ship to my country, makes me sad & stressed out. That's just me & how I feel. I just hope the next record release, the shop that goes 'exclusive' DOES ship their released Pearl Jam goodies outside the USA.

And, also, which I have forgotten to mention. I am part of the Wishlist Foundation Street Team. First 10 or so member's who signed up. I wasn't able to help out, cause 10club could only ship all those free goodies to USA residents only. Makes thing's more sad again, that you are left out just cause you live outside the country. I would of so helped out, spread the love, plaster all of downtown Halifax with poster's & sticker's to promote the record.

If you were in my shoes, living outside of the USA, you know the feeling & the message i'm trying to say. :(
