Red Hot Chili Peppers for the Hall?

Red Hot Chili Peppers, LL Cool J, and Kiss are among the first time nominees among a dozen finalists for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, according to a list released by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.

Going up against returning candidates like The Stooges and ABBA, 5 of the 12 nominees will be chosen for induction in January once the ballots of the 500 music industry voters has been cast.

"It's a real honor to be nominated in our first year of eligibility." Said Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith to Billboard.com. "Obviously the Hall of Fame has excellent musical taste." He added.

An announcement of the inductees is expected in January, while the 25th Annual Induction Ceremony will take place on March 15 at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City.

While the inductees are decided, the Hall of Fame are also preparing for its 25th anniversary concerts on October 29 and 30 at New York's Madison Square Garden with performances by U2, Metallica, Stevie Wonder and Simon & Garfunkel already amongst those confirmed.

As well as the nominee announcement and anniversary concerts the release of a nine-DVD boxed set titled 'Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Live' and the publication of a book, 'The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: The First 25 Years' are also due for release to coincide with the celebrations.

    The decision should be made considerably more easy based on the above exclusions-by-classification... But I think we all know that isn't going to happen.

    You do understand I'm the BIGGEST RUSH fan on here right. My username get it. I said that meaning they're way to good, great to be included with some of like you said *clowns* already in there. For that matter I hope they STILL will NEVER grace the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.

    I've seen every RUSH tour since Moving Pictures, except Test for Echo, I went to the Signals Tour show in Houston with my English teacher in 7th grade and I've seen them 15 times, I'm a pretty big fan also. The R&R HOF is a COMPLETE JOKE, how is Stevie Ray Vaughn not even on the ballot last year or this year??????????

    That's funny I've seen every tour since g under p and the only one I missed was Test For Echo of which had tickets but had to give them up. For me 30+ times I've seen them in various cities on the east coast from Mass to Florida.

    Genesis is an interesting inclusion, as Peter Gabriel called Jann Wenner out on his disdain for that type of music in the Genesis biography.
