  • I don't know, its sort of been the opposite for me. Backspacer has made me realize that aside from a couple of high points that the Avacodo album feels like its missing something.

I agree with this view ... Avocado is still a badass rock record, but it winds up feeling a tad uni-dimentional next to Backspacer, which features a lot more ... Subtlety?
  • I'd have to say Backspacer has also made me realize something was missing with Avocado. Much more depth to Backspacer. Both musically and lyrically.

I love both records, and think they sound good together if you mix them up.
    Peace, Love.

  • i wonder if there's ever been a record that ellicited a broader variety of opinion? i would never classify the lyrics of Backspacer as deeper than any other PJ record. In fact, the straightforward in-your-face themes of many of the songs (got some, the fixer, supersonic, etc) are what make this album so refreshing and unique for me.
  • I look like it like a basketball team. So you have these all-star types. They are great, the team is great but don't win the championship. But they are still great. That's Avocado to me. Then they hire a renound coach Brendan) which adds synergy and inspires the players to achieve just that much more utilizing talent neededd to be extracted from a place they never knew they had. And they won the championship. Backspacer.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river
  • Avocado seems too stiff or flat, and Ed's voice struggles a bit. Since the first listen, i've only gained an appreciation for life wasted. the others i either loved (Severed Hand, Parachutes, Comatose) or hated (everything else).

Backspacer gives me an even greater appreciation for Brendan o'Brien, thats all.
