  • they seriously had a brass section? ughghg...i was hoping that the live versions of the songs with strings and horns would be stripped down and be pure rock songs
  • hopefully just a Seattle thing

They're trying to recreate the songs as recorded on the album. What a disaster.

Personally, I think it's a good idea to introduce some new elements to the live show. The horn section should provide more depth to the music. Nice to see them experiment.
When we found the things we loved,
They were crushed and dying in the dirt.
We tried to pick up the pieces,
And get away without getting hurt,
But they caught us at the state line,
And burned our cars in one last fight,
And left us running burned and blind,
    Chasing something in the night.

maybe at it's worst, it's just a tour thing...like when they had their back-up singers last tour...

it makes it seem like Pearl Jam is considering becoming some Arena Rock band like Bon Jovi or something...i mean i guess all bands with longevity tend to fallow that route, but it scares me. You know, replacing band members with young kids. Like The Who and Van Halen. Suddenly those Super Bowl rumors will come true

that's what i'm saying!! those instruments add a depth and richness to the music!!!

anybody who is a Moody Blues Fan knows what i mean.
  • they had a strings section for "just breath" in seattle last night. A friend of mine went and told me about it. rumour was that one of the strings was Matt Cameron's wife and that this was only for Seattle.
  • Horns. Ugh. Does sound like a Seattle only thing, though.

I'm not for PJ having horn players and a bunch of extra members on stage as a regular thing (like when the Chili Peppers have extra guitarists and background vocals??? too Michael Jacksony for me) BUT they did this years ago in Seattle too. They had string players (including Cameron's wife I think) for Parting Ways on the 2000 Seattle show. I'm just amazed if you can even hear those instruments in an arena setting like that. You can hear it on the bootleg but I bet it just gets drowned out in person.

The guy on the right end of the horn section, is that Skerik ??
    Legend!

The horn section on the VH1 performance of The Real Me sounded brilliant, can only imagine this was a good thing. I have no problem with string sections either, its all good for the colouring of the song.
