I find my mind is already replaying the songs in my head, and between that and listening to it 6 full times around, I think I need to take a break from it for maybe a few days or a week.

Anyone else in the same boat?
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

  • Seeing how mine only arrived yesterday (okay, okay, I did pick a copy up at Target on Sunday ... ) - no, I'm not there yet. I had it on repeat on my iPod for a good portion of the day today!

  • I was thinking about this today. I've listened to it 4 full times at work the past two days, about 4 full times over the wkend, and another full time last night when playing it for my wife for the first time. It's time to let it simmer. I'll put it into my normal car rotation now.

  • Same, I listened to it 3 times in a row when it leaked and then like 2 times a day after that. After about a week I'm just going to listen to it once a day or once every other day.

I do this with every album BTW

That's the problem with it being such a short album. You can get through it in no time (well, 36 minutes, I guess). As soon as some new boots are available, I'll grab those and start in on the live versions

According to my iTunes I played it 21 times in full since last Thursday. :?

So yeah, I'm back to bootlegs for a while.

this album dissapointed me but hope you enjoy it!

Yeah, i've listened to BS a good amount since it first made its rounds. I've got 5 shows coming up so i'll probably spin it once when my vinyl finally arrives and then limit plays until the festivities of Night 1 LA begin

Yeah, they all just play over and over in my head too, especially The end, UK, ATW and speed of sound.

I dont know if thats a bad thing, or just they are really good songs...

I have listen to it at least 12 times. I drive my son to pre-school 5 days a week and then to the gym before picking him up 2.5 hours later.

Each time The End comes I tell myslef to let the disc change and listen to Yield, Riot Act, or Vs.

But every time I skip back to Gonna See my Friend and start the wonderful journey all over again.
  • From the time I got it on Friday until today it was literally the only thing I was listening to. I've probably been through the thing... 10 times? That may be a conservative guess. It might be more at this point. 12. I took a "break" today by listening to it for the second time today and then putting on a mix of some other PJ songs from Avocado, Yield and No Code. I have to say, Backspacer fit in quite well.

The tunes from this album have been sticking in my mind, and I have found that on more than one track I've been listening repeatedly, in the dark, with my headphones, occasionally pouring over the lyrics, trying to absorb every nuance of the music. It's been a while since I've been led to do that by a Pearl Jam song/album. (Inside Job did it to me, but it took a good two years before that happened.) Just Breathe, Unthought Known, The End, Force of Nature and Got Some are all doing that to me right now (by right now, I mean the last... 36 hours?) The trend may start moving towards heavier plays for those and taking a break from others. I don't know. I don't try to impose restrictions on my listening, I just do what I'm moved to do.
  • I've been listening to it almost exclusively since I got it. For the past few days I've only been listening to it in the car so I can listen to other music while at home.
  • No break for me.

I have listened to it a ton since it came out...I will be playing it heavily for at least the next couple months.

I have played it about 20 times since last Friday (taking a break over the weekend) and still can't get enough of it. Every time I think of what to play next, I just can't resist the temptation  And yeah, my head is quite full of it right now...

I thought about it, but then I put it in again. I find that as I'm going through the day random lines and melodies from the album pop into my head. So naturally I want to hear the whole song. And since I'm listening to that I might as well listen to the whole thing. It is only 36 minutes long, no?

Actually I am today and for a couple days. I have two new Black Crowes CDs to get to know before their show in a couple of weeks and I only got to listen to them a couple of times before Backspacer hit.

  • This has been the only thing I've listened to since last Thursday afternoon, except for going back and listening to half of Avocado on Saturday. I've spun the Backspacer vinyl probably 5-6 times, listened to the album a couple times through in the car, and listened to the album on my iPod at least once each day... so that's coming in at what, around 14-15 times through?

I've thought about mixing in some other PJ or even other music (I was getting into the new Black Crowes before Backspacer), but I just keep coming back to this album. Like Heavy Hands said, I keep hearing lines or melodies in my head at work. I don't really have an opportunity to listen while at work, so by the time the old 8 to 6 ends, I have a large cache of melodies to hear in their full context. With a 25-30 minute commute home, I can get through most of the album in one trip. It really does make sense to just listen to the whole thing. I find the sequencing on this album is fantastic (other than Speed of Sound, it's the only one I'm not ecstatic about yet), so just when I think I will skip a song or two, I just can't.

This weekend I'll be making a 2+ hour drive, so I think I will mix in some other CD's. However I envision it being all PJ. Not that my PJ interest ever wanes, but this album has really reinforced it. Might try and listen to them all in order over the weekend or something.

    nope.
don't even have the album in my possession a week! first listen was saturday...
i like to totally immerse myself in new music, particularly pjs, to really get a feel for it, to truly form an opinion on it. sure, after a week i'll break from it some, and more than likely, right before the shows i most defintely will as is my custom, then on to boots......and then a nice space of time, a breather-rest.....before i return to it.
    Stay with me...
    Let's just breathe...

I am myself like you somehow
