Computer issues when playing Backspacer

I just bought it this morning (yeah, I know I'm late) and tried to play it on my computer at work. I couldn't. Brought it to my systems department and although they could get it to play, the sound was terrible so they said that it was defective and to take it back. I did and although when I first put the disc in, it said the same thing as it said this morning and that was "media player cannot support this file" or some such thing. Anyway, after some fiddling, it suddenly started but for whatever reason, the track listing says I'm listening to Avacodo. As I type this, I am listening to The Fixer but according to Windows Media Player, I'm listening to Comatose!!! How bizarre - anyone else with this sort of issue?

When I play the Fixer my computer says I am listening to crap.

Sounds like you need a new computer

I put the CD in my computer so I could import it into iTunes and update my iPod. I imported it three times, and each time the music sounds... bumpy, for lack of a better word, almost as if it is skipping. I thought maybe the problem was my computer (which sucks, but which has handled all of my other CDs successfully), or maybe it was the updated version of iTunes now running on said sucky computer. Perhaps it is actually a problem with the CD itself? Does this sound familiar?

    That is a distinct possibility.

Thanks Sea - I haven't read it completely yet but hopefully it will solve the issue. It's just bizarre that it's telling me I'm listening to a different album.
  • Downloading and use ITunes took care of the problem for me. WMV would not play it!

I got mine at HMV too and when I brough it back, they told me I was the second person to bring it back. The other person had a completely different CD in theirs.

I had no problems with iTunes, though I did experience the "Avocado Phenomenon" with Media Player.

That's exactly the way it sounded when I brought it to my systems department - bumpy as if skipping.

Update - my systems guy is swearing up and down that my CD is from a bad batch. I didn't mention this morning that when he looked at it he said there is a ring around (near the inner circle) that shouldn't be there. When I brought mine back to HMV, they thought it was weird and when they opened up another one to give to me, it had the ring too. Despite being able to finally play it (Avacado play listing and all), I am going to check it out on my CD player at home. If there are still issues, I may just have to get my money back and maybe try getting it from a different location.

Thanks, Trixie. I ended up going onto iTunes and re-purchasing it there. I'm still waiting for everything to download onto one of the boys' iPods, but I trust/hope this will sound better.

For what it is worth, the CD sounds great on the stereo at home and in the car. :)

I purchased my copy through PJ website pre-order and experienced the same problem - iTunes worked fine but Media Player reads it out as the Avacado album...?
