Got Some probably, though amongst the waves and unthought known would be cool too. I think Just Breathe could be popular. Supersonic is also really catchy. Wow, really any song on the album could be the next single with the exception of speed of sound. (though I like that song.)
it could be like in the past where radio stations would just play their fav track. I think Betterman wasn't an official single. But it became a radio hit. And still is played quite a lot.

I think radio stations will be less likely nowadays to play random tracks off a PJ album than they were in the early 90's. Sure, some stations still do it, but I don't know whether it'll be common enough to generate a "hit." But, who knows, it worked for Last Kiss...
I think they should go another rocker, as in Got Some, then for number three a bit of a change up, like Amongst The Waves or Unthought Known or Force of Nature (great songs but not too challenging to the ear).
I love Just Breathe but I don't think it'd be the best choice as single - it'd do better just gaining notoriety (if you can call it that) through word-of-mouth and people choosing it as a wedding song or featuring on a tv show or movie, and in doing so raising general interest in the album.

i actually heard gonna see my friend saturday on 97.9 here in chicago which is very weird..only 93.1 plays PJ stuff that isn't a single so maybe that one?
Good choice but I've already heard it like 6 times on the radio in Boston. I would like to see Force of Nature personally.
What Boston station do you listen to? I havent heard it yet...
I gotta think Got Some will be the next single. If you think radios liked the fixer they are going to love got some. Its miles better than the fixer and also miles more radio friendly. I think it has big hit written all over. I think some will be the biggest Pearl Jam radio song of the last 11 years. After that they have many to choose from. Just Breathe, Amongst the Waves, and Unthougt Known could all be big radio hits...I think 3rd will be Amongst.
Supersonic has already been released in NZ I think last week some time. Backspacer was released to the public here last Friday 18. Listened to it all weekend! I love Gonna see my friend and Just Breathe and ... actually I love them all!!
I was kinda interested to see on iTunes that Just Breathe is actually the number two most popular song on the album, according to them, behind The Fixer. Also Backspacer being the No. 1 album on iTunes, edging out such greats as Jay-Z... Not that that really necessarily means anything, but that may go to show that Just Breathe could have more hit potential than some people may credit to it.
Like someone said though, you never really can know, and personally I think Amongst the Waves and Unthought Known would be great second singles.
For example, there's two guys I work with that aren't particularly huge PJ fans. The one guy is a big fan of heavy, technical rock stuff (think Dream Theater and Avenged Sevenfold). On his first listen, his favorite song was The Fixer (he had heard it in advance of the rest of the album obviously) until Amongst the Waves came on. This succeeded as his most favorite song up until The End came on, surprising given his general taste..
Well go to the other guy, this dude is one of those casual music guys that'll listen to just about anything and find stuff he'll like and dislike everywhere. You can find him singing the latest radio hits to himself (this guy has some sort of weird Taylor Swift obsession, though I like to imagine that it's because she's pretty hot), but he'll take suggestions from me or my twin brother any time we give them to him. Soon as he heard a version of Unthought Known from an Eddie solo show, he was pretty pumped to hear the studio version. And once he did he loved it.
Perhaps that could allude to the possible radio friendliness of those tunes. I can't rule out Got Some though, I wouldn't doubt it'd be a good hit also.
Its got to be Got Some, its classic PJ, maybe the best "classic" PJ song since Do the Evolution. They have released something that sounds new, I can only think they would do something to make classic PJ fans happy as the next single, that would be Got Some.

Amongst the Waves will be a huge hit though and should be the third single
I think any of those three would make excellent second singles. Just Breathe could also be a big hit.

Alotta people are sayin that, but I don't hear it. I love the song, it's just not a hit, imo.
I've even heard people postin about PJ havin crossover hits which is one of the funnier things I've read on this board.
I love Just Breathe but I don't think it'd be the best choice as single - it'd do better just gaining notoriety (if you can call it that) through word-of-mouth and people choosing it as a wedding song or featuring on a tv show or movie, and in doing so raising general interest in the album.
"Pearl Jam's newest CD Backspacer Deluxe Edition featuring the hit singles The Fixer and Got some"
I would assume Got Some.......which is cool, because anyone called PJ "pop" after hearing The Fixer will have to eat their words pretty bad.
I think they are f'n crazy if they dont release Unthought Known as the 3rd single, it is a song w/ a big footprint and would explode on radio.

EV Solo: 6/16/11 Boston, 6/18/11 Hartford,
I would think those would be the singles, just sayin'
