so there have been a lot of negative threads concerning the t-shirt/album release at Target... i just gotta say that today on my lunch break i went down to a Target here in the cities and i was in and out in about 5 minutes. the guy in the electronics dept. was helpful, and he even knew about the shirts!!! they had them in back, which i think was good since it prevented people from hoarding them. (he actually offered to get me more than one, but i just asked for one...)

this thread isn't meant to brag, or make those of you who were denied feel bad... rather, it's just to point out that not ALL Target stores were f*cked up... i feel bad for those that didn't/couldn't get a shirt, but i wanted to say something nice about Target since they're a local company and i feel like there's been a lot of Target bashing on here lately.

i also have really been liking the new record. i got mine friday after pre-ordering the first day it became available. again, i feel bad for those of you in foreign markets who still haven't received them... i guess next time you SHOULD just buy them at the local record store. whatever the case, once you get it it will put a smile on your face 'cause this is Pearl Jam, damn it!!

  • I was going in there expecting some annoying stuff but when I got there it couldn't have been easier.

I went to the CD section and there was a custom case by the cd rack that was all backspacer. It had the fixer single on the top, then the album, then the album in vinyl, and on the bottom there were the shirts thrown in. I just picked up a cd and shirt and went to the register.

  • I also had a good experience at Target. I didn't get there until Monday night. I picked up an album by the registers & asked about the t-shirts. The employee said to check down by the electronics dept. By the time I walked down to electronics the employee had called down to electronics to confirm the location with the employee there to make sure I found the shirts (they were on a special rack along with the cd's right at the corner of the aisle by the electronics counter) They still had all of the sizes in stock so I grabbed an XL.

glad to hear there are some other positive experiences out there.... i'm actually glad they went with target, i guess they wanted to do a best buy exclusive but best buy wouldn't allow them to sell in indie stores as well? it's best buy's loss, thankfully target was forward thinking enough to realize they aren't competing for the same customers.
  • the target in walnut creek also had a display right in front of the electronics dept, with a monitor of the fixer video playing. I didn't check if there was in vinyl, but there were cds and t-shirts prominently displayed.

My experience was overall good. I went on Monday to get the shirt. They had a big endcap display with a sign above that you could see down the aisle for BS. No shirts or LPs though. I asked at the front desk and a very nice woman said she didn't know anything about them, so I left disappointed. Thinking about it later, I called the store back and after talking to a clueless woman ("Pearl who? hold on... say it again, I want to make sure I tell my assistant the right name!) I was sent to the electronics section where, lo and behold, they in fact had a couple of shirts left! They put one on hold for me and I picked it up after work!

The guy in the electronic section when I got there was a trip too - old black guy, maybe in his 50s - got the shirt for me and started talking about the CD and the Fixer 45 ---"I couldn't believe we got these 45s in, I haven't seen them in years, in fact I had to open it just to make sure what it was. I don't know much about this Pearl Jam, but I may need to take one whom to listen to it...they say we're the only ones selling it!"

I had a great experience at my Target (Watertown, MA) on Sunday morning. They had both the shirts and the CD's behind the electronics counter. I was in and out in five minutes.

  • Even here in the backwater, country music town of Montgomery, Alabama, my Target was fully stocked with CDs and it even had an eye-catching display. I bought my CD from Ten Club, but I went by the store on Sunday just to soak up the Pearl Jam excitement. This location wasn't one of the T-shirt locations, so I had to order mine from Target.com.
