    Why are you doing this?

I started this thread because I saw someone in another (of the numerous) disorganized complaint thread about bad Target experiences throw the idea out and the concept of looking at specific locations or distributions of marketing plan execution seemed interesting to me.

J, I am of the belief that, while complaining is not always a bad thing (it's almost never a bad idea to let others know if something is genuinely wrong), disorganized complaining often falls on deaf ears. Organized and legitimate suggestions about how to improve a situation are almost universally accepted, however. Sometimes, all people need is a structured outlet to get the ball rolling.

I agree with you and my post was not intended to be pointing directly at you, the creator of this thread. I'm aiming more at the people who feel they have been given some divine right that these things were owed to them.

I agree that with a big named band and a huge deal made with Target, that Target should have been more informative with their stores about what would be happening on Sunday. A simple memo is all it takes. I am more and more frustrated by workers in stores who HAVE NO IDEA about the store or the products they carry. "Can I help you?" I always say "no" because I usually know more about their store than they do!

I've butted in on employees giving flat out WRONG information to customers. I don't feel rude butting in and saying, "...actually". Sorry if I make the employee look like an idiot but THEY WORK THERE. They should know their product.

I'm just really sick of the whining all over this forum. "I didn't get tickets" "I don't have my CD yet." "I didn't get this." I am ashamed to be included with these people as fan.

  • You are making this thread into something that it's not. I think the majority understood the point of this thread:

List the Target store specifically and what they had or did not have.

I don't think it's complaining too much when a store doesn't even have the CD displayed when it's supposed to be a Target exclusive release. It was advertised on commercials ( I saw the commercial at least 5 or 6 times on various channels) as being released by Target on Sunday, September 20th.

I think it may be helpful for PJ or their management to get some feedback on what went on with their deal.

I worked at Best Buy for over 3 years from 1998-2001. I worked in the Media department, and we were expected to have releases out the night before (especially end-capped items that were being advertised like Backspacer). It doesn't take a whole lot of planning to get these things done correctly.

I'm not owed anything, but I believe certain Target stores owe PJ's Management an explanation/apology for why they didn't have the CD on display at opening Sunday morning. Some stores (from what I've read elsewhere) are still insisting on not releasing it until Tuesday.

    Right!

Pearl Jam is owed, not us. Think about it...there are dozens of stories about refusing to sell the CD till Tuesday & not having it outright. Say there are 10 customer instances per store X 1,000 stores...that is 10,000 people coming in for an advertised product that the store's management & employees knew little to nothing about.
If I was Pearl jam MGT I'd be ripping at Target for trusting them to be uniform & do things as planned in every location. it's a CHAIN STORE, THAT'S THEIR FUCKING JOB!

insult to injury: When in millbury, MA on Sunday morning when the girl was looking at me like I was the one that was retarded, i pointed over her shoulder at the wall of 100 giant TVs playing the backspacer ad, and said: See, even the TV knows what's going on.

  • Canton, Georgia 9/20/09 Sunday 9am nothing on display. 1 tv in music area with target PJ commerial on with about 5 other bands too. No Cd's or anything. I walked around the entire Dept. Then went and found someone who had no idea what I was talking about. He got on his walkie talkie and guy said new releases are always Tuesday. I said this one is Sunday Today!!!! Can you please go back there and look for me.... Tshirt Cd!
He said he was certain. I took him over to the tv and pulled up the target release on my iphone.
He then goes to the back gets me a cd and says maybe I should display these. After he insists that he should even give me one till Tuesday.
I went to the front and spoke to the store manager. She didnt even know what the hell I was talking about.
OMG! I looked like a lunatic!
  • Went to see U2 in Foxboro last night and stopped at North Attlebury, Mass., Target this morning and was told they didn't receive the shipment of CDs yet. They had only the vinyl.

On the way home, stopped at Target in Vestal, N.Y., and they had zero cds out. We asked and he said the CD wasn't out until Tuesday. When corrected, he finally went back and got one CD to give to us, with no sign of putting the others out for everyone else. He said T-shirts would be in later in the week.

So this thread is viable, especially when you can only get the album at Target and certain record stores. You end up with lot of people searching Targets on release day and finding no album, with zero alternatives.

My CD showed up from TenClub on Saturday, so this one wasn't for me.

I'm sure the 10C is looking into it (if you are not sure what "it" is, find any one of the dozens of threads about Target from the surrounding 24 hour period and you'll know), but I'm curious about how many and which specific Target locations did not have the correct PJ merchandise (either on display, or altogether) yesterday (September 20th, 2009).

    1. Please leave the City, State, and any other specific location-related info like a street name or store number.

2.Please list the time of day you went.

    3. Please list the specific thing you went there to get (which they were marketing as having available on the 20th) which they did not have.

    4. Please indicate if they wound up having merchandise in the store, but it was not yet out on display when the store opened.

    5. Leave any other observations. (Please keep things civil though, ok? :) )

    1. Somersworth NH, Portsmouth NH, Concord NH

    2. 11:00am

    3. Backspacer CD and Vinyl if they had it

    4. No Merch at any of the stores except for Concord NH they had two copies

    5. I didn't actually go to Portsmouth and Concord. I had the women in electronics call each place. When she called Concord they only had two copies of backspacer left and they would only hold one for an hour and a half. It would have taken me that amount of time to drive there without traffic. I would have had to speed and break laws to get there. I ended up getting it at an indy store called Bullmoose music in Porstmouth NH. They had everything except for the T-shirt.

  • 1. Dorchester, Ma - South Bay Center

    2. 11:00 am Sunday

    3. CD and/or Rockband Edition CD

    4. They did not have it in the store. The guy in electronics said they didn't get the shipment and there had been a bunch of people in the store already asking.

    5. Went to the store in Somerville MA. They had the CDs, but the no one had any idea about the rockband editions. In both stores the Backspacer ad saying it was available on the 20th was playing on all the TVs.

shirts available in all sizes, no vinyl (yet)

Hope this helps someone in his/her quest.

    1. 9/21/09 Leominster, MA Target

    2. Around 3pm today my boyfriend went there and saw 3 empty shelf with the little upc label sticker where the cds were supposed to be when he asked the store clerk if they had sold out of Back Spacer he said no that the had not gotten a shipment that the Worcester,MA and Malboro,MA stores had but that they were still waiting.

I personally really don't care that they did not have it because I had pre-ordered thru Ten Club and already have it. I had just asked him to check on the status for me while he was there. The Clerk also told him that he was about the 750th person who had asked him about it. I am sure that number is way overblown but I thought it was good to know a lot of other people were asking for it too.

    Why are you doing this?

There is NO mention of the shirt or vinyl in the Target circular and even this site says "SELECT TARGET STORES".

This was a limited thing. You can get upset all you want but you act like you been screwed out of something you were promised. Nothing was promised you.

Target didn't drop any ball. The only reason for grief I can see is if they didn't have the CD out on Sunday morning. Even then I would cut them some slack. NO ONE releases music on a Sunday and people who aren't familiar with this of course would be confused.

a lot of these targets had no cd out sunday let alone other merch.
i feel the band deserves to know what they paid for and what their fans went thru.

You people really think this is going to make a difference/matter?

Don't get me wrong, the ball was dropped on this one by Target, but at the end of the day I'm sure no one at Target corporate is going to care. And to think that Pearl Jam has enough pull to 'raise' a fuss over this is hilarious to me.

actually it could possibly be considered a breach of contract if Target didn't live up to whatever is in writing between them and the band like um...putting the cd on the shelf on release day :?

    i know that.
pj left their product to be represented by target.
    they did a poor job.
it's not about money....think of it like that.
What about accountability? Or does that matter to anybody anymore?

    Looking for shirt.

    No display, shirts, or vinyl.

Asked and received shirt from back room stock area. They were too busy to get the shirts, display, etc. on the floor. Same scenario at 2 other Denver locations.

Ciao.....................P.S. support your local businesses, buy from local music store, unfornately the shirt not available at music stores.

    4. I don't know if they now have it as I did not go back.

    5. The morons in the electronics department gave me the same BS that others are getting as well - "The release was pushed back until Tuesday".

3 I went for Rockband edition cd and T shirts

4 I only saw the Fixer single on display no cds at all and no T shirts

5 no one around to ask questions of, I couldn't stay to find someone as I was on my way to work.
I looked on line and this was one of the stores listed to sell the T shirts.
  • I went today to the S. Lamar Austin, TX Target had about 25 tshirts today along with Rock Band CD and regular CD, didn't see the LP.

Ben White and Mopac Austin, TX Target just had the CDs and the Rock Band version. Said they got 10 tshirts. Sold 6 on Sunday and 4 yesterday

  • Montgomery, AL Monday September 21,

I wanted the t-shirt. All they had was the CD's. There didn't look like there was enough space on the backspacer floor display for anything besides the CD's they had, so I get the impression that not all Targets are supposed to have everything. The manager of the music/electronics section had no idea about the existence of any other merchandise.
  • Waterford, CT. has not gotten the CD or vinyl yet, as of Tuesday evening.
No T shirts, either, and they are on the list.
