"The International Day of Peace occurs annually on September 21. It is dedicated to peace, or specifically the absence of war, such as might be occasioned by a temporary ceasefire in a combat zone. It is observed by many nations, political groups, military groups, and peoples.

To inaugurate the day, the "Peace Bell" is rung at UN Headquarters. The bell is cast from coins donated by children from all continents. It was given as a gift by the Diet of Japan, and is referred to as "a reminder of the human cost of war." The inscription on its side reads: "Long live absolute world peace."

IT STARTS AT 10AM PST. Please join in the 10 minute meditation on peace and a world free of war and suffering. :!:

i like the idea of this, but of course we are going to ignore it and drop some bombs from predator drones on some people in afghanistan like we do every day. i like the idea of international day of peace rather than the idea of calling 9/11 "patriot day".

I agree with you, here... Earth Day, Peace Day, Tea Party, 9/12... all just a bunch of pre-fabricated bullshit.

That's strange, but I don't remember world peace ever being born. :?

Edit: I'm sure that the people of Iraq, Afghanistan, the Occupied Territories, e.t.c. would view this thing as pure horseshit

these days are relevant for one simple matter:

    PEOPLE SUCK

all these days should be reminders of how we continue to support an existence that calls for the exploitation of people and the planet - our happiness hinges on the suffering of others ... i'm sure most of you will blow this off as being overly dramatic - but consider yourself lucky that you didn't have your village laced with DU rounds; or you aren't getting paid pennies for your work so some large corporation can make millions; or you aren't struggling just to find a clean glass of water ...

yeah - the events are hokey but the message remains clear ... and before people start doing the typical - what do YOU do shit ... my response is this: it doesn't really matter how i live my life, it only matters how WE live our lives ...

Wow guys. Way to knock down the chance that peace can exist. It never will exist when people continue to wage war and spit in each others' faces rather than call a truce. And that's between neighbors, strangers and friends, as well as on a larger scale - between countries.

Continue on with your cynical attitudes...

i was not being cynical. i simply stated that even on international day of peace we drop bombs.

I wonder how many of us knew that last year was the 50th Aniversary of the Peace Sign.

National Geographic Commemorates 50th Anniversary of Peace Sign with ''PEACE: The...Biography

  • Nice about the peace sign.

It's sad to see so many fans so hopeless. You'd think the music lately would lift one up a bit.

We can make change, one, one at a time. When we contribute our hearts and consciousness to these sorts of affairs we are dedicating our hearts to a force that is way beyond ourselves.

the word, hate, has much power in the world of quantum magnetics. the more you say the word, the more you will have relationships with in the detest factor.

Our words are powerful, but our thoughts are even more-so.

bright blessings in your day and every day. please support what you can not see in the immediate and celebrate
the love you cannot see as eagerly as what you do...

  • We need to think of Peace as more than just a 1 day event. Then we'll get somewhere.
  • Peace = people helping each other without expectation of return and being sympathetic for the needs of others (at least that is how I would interpret it)

People helping each other without expectation of return and being sympathetic for the needs of others = Socialism (according to the right-wing pundits)

either my definition is wrong or the right wing pundits are wrong...
Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. You are free... free to do what the government says you can do.
