Pitchfork hates Pearl Jam for some reason, but this album is definitely different from past releases so they will either like it more or less.

The review will probably be out on Mon.

my guess is that they'll give it a 6.2

    Hahaha!!!!

I'm also waiting for that one. They'll find a reason to give Backspacer a 3 or 4, you watch. Damn, even Q magazine gave a great review but Pitchfork will stick to their "so-call indie" reputation...!

    My husband calls 4.8.

Myself, I gave Pitchfork a -7.8 about 4 years ago.

well....its not Radiohead or The Beatles...or a Modest Mouse album that reminds them of Radiohead.

    2.3

  • Backspacer is an album feature unique guitar patterns, great lyrics, and an incredible feel of unity from a great band...Its a great album...

It is not a concept album that is just noise, weird sounds here and there put together like an experiment...

Therefore Pitchfork will give it around a 5.3 where as the bottom type of album would get a 900 out of 10
  • 5.2
  • It's Pitchfork, and PJ. Let's see. Since PJ is a well established band with a large following and great music already made... and since PJ is not a small unknown indie band that Pitchfork can claim is super before anyone else knows them, the max score starts at a 7.

take off a point or two because they won't give it a max score, i'll guess a 5.5.

hopefully it's better than what they gave Jet's second album.....a chimp peeing it's it's mouth
  • If its not radiohead its under 5, and since its pearl jam i'll say 3.8
"Change don't come at once, it's a wave, building before it breaks"
  • i assume 6, though yield got 8.5, so 7 might not be out of the question

  • My friends album came out on Vagrant earlier in the year... they got a shitty score somewhere in the 5's. It was the same day Michael Jackson Died and the revue had very little to do with their band or songs at all. The guy reviewing the album explained his dislike for another band the whole time writing their revue.

I was thinking a 6.1 before I entered this thread so I'll stick with that.

    And the score.... 4.6

I guess my husband was closest....and yet, is being familiar enough with Pitchfork to be able to closely predict their scores really a prize? :)
  • That review is terrible.
  • Not that I really expected a more positive review, but the one up on the site is just lazy. And really there is no proof that the album was actually listened to. Why even bother reviewing something they are clearly not interested in giving equal time to?

Pitchfork was sooooo 3 years ago.
  • It's a 4.6.....the review is terrible. I now have a thread calling for everyone to email the author. Here's his email (which is posted on the PF site so I'm not doing anything wrong)
