10 Reasons why Backspacer is the best album since Yield

10 Reasons Why:

1) Eddie's vocals may be the finest we've ever heard (on ANY album)
2) The drumming on this album has never defined a Pearl jam album but Matt just crushes it here
3) Hello melody! We've finally "got some" after the last few albums
4) Jeff Ament's best song since Jeremy (Got Some)
5) The tightest, most rocking 4 song start to an album since VS
6) Amongst The Waves (enough said)
7) Amazing, heartfealt lyrics that can create a feeling and mood in one listen
8) The solos are perfectly delivered and placed within each song (plus they f'n rock!)
9) The band sounds like they have found their mojo and are out to prove why Pearl Jam is still the best band of the last two decades
10) Brendan O'Brien (always has been the unofficial 6th member of the band)

I agree with #4 and #11...and maybe #1 and #2. But I think the first four songs on Avocado are better and rock harder than the first four here.

there have been better solos, than this album

True, there have been better solos but what I said was that they were perfectly delivered and placed within the songs, meaning they didn't take away from the songs but made the songs better. Did you hear the solo in Amongst The Waves!
  • i noticed the absence of solos in this album which is what they went for, a new wave/ pop punk feel which it does give off. plus mike deserves a break for once

I agree on many levels. And keep in mind this is just my opinion...I also think it is the most complete album since VS. Those were the only two where I didn't have any skippers....Backspacer has joined it.

    1 reason it's not....... Binaural
  • I my opinion, its almost as if binaural and yield had a baby. Personally I love the songwritting on binaural, it really paints a feeling in your mind, and that is how I felt after listening to back spacer the first time. It also has many of the aspects of yield I love so much, kind of a feeling of being connected to nature and almost a metaphysical touch that makes you think of your place as a human in this world, or time, or wherever the fuck we really are...unthought known/faithful. I think the #1 thing that I like about backspacer is that they really seem unafraid, songs that may have been put back on the shelf several years ago for being maybe to much of a radio hit, or to funky or too personal, they really put them selves out there for us, and for that I am grateful for having this band in my life as always
    all those paper plates......
