You know. . . for Target being the "exclusive" retailer of this album, they are certainly not doing a very good job of making it available to customers. I have never heard more stories from people that are unable to find a record on the day of it's release not because it's selling out, but because the retail chain itself is failing to stock the product in a timely manner.
The one I went to In Harrisburg, PA had them but where the display was located did not have very good visibilty. It took me a few minutes to find it. I almost thought it was another store that didn't stock the album. . . and they did not have the 12" vinyl. Weird.
I managed to get a t-shirt from the same Target, I wondered over to the Electronics department to ask where they were at, only to find them hiding there behind the register. Along with the t-shirts they had the CD on an endcap, and a few copies of the fixer single. I didn't see the 12" vinyl or any rockband.
I am heading back to target. I have to pick up some toilet paper and deoderant. Why the Fuck would I want to buy music there. In my opinion (and by the way I am a huge PJ fan) my fav band ever! I have been to over 25 shows. Why the Fuck do I want to deal with Target? This was a mistake. They will learn from this and hopefully more bands will decide this new way of doing this is wrong. ie Bruce even said he Fucked up dealing with Wal-Mart! Yes Axl burned Best Buy. But Best Buy should have known better in that case.
How to you not have your shit together Target? Sunday Morning 9am I was in Target trying to buy Backspacer (successfully) but I looked like a total freak! asking 3 people including the store manager all of which had no idea what I was talking about. Again. Target should stick to Enemas and underwear. Not major record releases. It's not over yet. I forsee the numbers will be low on sales because of this.
I actually dig the idea of ppl going around and garnering "proof" for lack of better words that Target did not hold their end of the bargain. Call it ridiculous and roll your eyes if you need to.. ..., but put yourself in the band's shows...(and don't bring money into this)...think of it as you having a deal w/someone who said they'd represent you and your product......
Target (at least the 3 I've been to) really screwed the pooch on this....
...Even if you don't view Target as a place to buy music...they still could've had bigger displays (in some cases A display)....making a bit of a production about it. IMHO...they did not hold true to their deal. I went to 3 diff. Targets in NOVA (northern VA) and only one had BS'er (Just the CD--NOT The Vinyl, shirt, or RB edition)....and the display was embarrasing to say the least....
Why wouldn't TARGET, a major Corporation, who had a contractual agreement to represent "x" on "y" date, be able to meet this agreement? I'm willing to bet that many other companies out there who trust TARGET to carry their product would hold them to this....Why shouldn't PJ?

Your vent is understandable... however, they thought long and hard about this deal with Target, one of the largest corporations. Target made an agreement with the band about how to promote their new record and of course, as many have witnessed, they didn't do a good job.
I may be thinking way too much into this (sorry, that's me...would love to get paid thinking all day, really do enjoy that shit.... think think think....uh, get back to point please...stop thinking about what these green/yellow leaves hanging on to its dear life right in front me really means... )....
...but think about this: It's a corporation. Wouldn't want we want to empower people on how to recognize errors and bringing this to their attention as people - their consumers? Not to be intimidated by the concept of "corporation"...that it's okay to question and ask why things aren't done the way they are... and document them.
If you are not holding up to your agreement, okay... I'll just write this down, no biggie deal. And let 10c know.... as least this would give them more information to gather on...if they need this for later.... whatever they decide to do with the information (proof of pixs & document)...then they have plenty to build a case.
I will go there tonight, when hubby gets home... he doesn't feel comfortable doing this, so I will do this myself.
Really, if you don't want to do this... no big deal, don't do it.
JA: Why do I get the Ticketmaster question?
EV: It's your band.

i don't understand why the band even deals with a big corp at this point in game. they should do what fat mike of nofx did. he created a label and signed a few bands and made shitload of money. you can go into any big corp store and see a nofx cd. pj could easily do this and show new bands on how to do things the right way.

After reading all the posts in this thread, I'm left wondering whether we are actually mad about the Target/PJ promo deal for ourselves, or for PJ. It doesn't sound like any of us missed out on actually getting the CD (the important thing). As for the shirt, it was advertised as "limited edition," meaning...well I'm not going to explain what that means.
As for the vinyl pre-order, I'm still waiting on mine, so maybe our issue is with the Ten Club, which I'm sure, is one massive organization in its own right, with dozens of workers, eagerly waiting to service about 10,000 crabby PJ fans (yikes!)...sarcasm doesn't usually print, so take note.
So...are we all really mad about anything if our only gripes are that we haven't received our vinyl yet from a small organization like Ten Club and that some of us missed out on a shirt that was advertised as "limited edition" in the first place on the band's website? Personally, I myself could care less if Target didn't have a big enough sign or if Target's 15 year old or 87 year old employees *gasp* didn't know that PEARL JAM was releasing an album on Sunday!
I read somewhere on here that the hardest thing about being a PJ fan is all the other PJ fans...so true...

Well I don’t care if they sign with them, I’m just a little minutely peeved with them because it cramped my ‘new pj’ experience.
I wanted to walk in there and see ‘p-e-a-r-l j-a-m’ plastered somewhere. Instead, I had to ask them to get them outta a backroom. Like they were a two headed monster Target was ashamed of.
