I came real close to booking a flight to Seattle to hear this song played for the first time....I live in Chicago. That's how good this song is......I wish I didn't have important things to do Monday....completely jealous of everyone in the house tomorrow night....enjoy!!

wow.....I was just about to correct myself but you did it for me....actually Release might fall into that category too.....anyway, this song almost had me drop a few bills to fly halfway across the country....and I just saw pj a few weeks ago at the United Center.

Pretty happy that this was Avocado part 2 and not Riot Act part 2.

This is a whole new beast in my opinion, its sooo catchy and the production value is light years ahead of Avocado. I can't get over the grooves on the rock songs. Its seriously the best of every world in Pearl Jam land, Stones grooves, Ed lyrics and storytelling, Matts Drums, Mike's leads and Jeffs bass.
    32 shows and counting...
  • All I know is that usually it takes some time to fall in love with a song....but, when I heard Just Breathe and Unthought Known for the first time.....wow. and the best part is, a lot of people on this board don't even think those are the best songs on the album....which means there's a lot to look forward to.

I think it's hard to tell which one is the best Pearl Jam song.
But I agree that Unthought Known is perfect. Another song I will definitely listen to a lot in the future.
And I'm off to Seattle tomorrow..... :) So maybe I can check it out live......

I was so expecting Amongst The Waves to beat Unthought Known from what I read, but I think Known tops Waves.

  • Not sure about best song ever ..... but it's currently my favourite track on Backspacer. Does it remind anyone of the Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness album by The Smashing Pumpkins? ..... or is it just me? .... it's probably just me ..... I'll get my coat :?

  • i dont know, i think i liked it better when its just eddie and an acoustic guitar... but thats probably just me being biased since i heard it the first time it was played at one of eddies solo showes in NJ, a few hours after he wrote it...... but i love the album version too. definitely my favorite on backspacer
In July 2007 Densmore said that he would not rejoin The Doors unless it was fronted by Eddie Vedder. Densmore says, "I play with Jim. If there's someone of that level, OK. I'm not gonna join them with Ian. That's not to diss Ian, he's a good singer - but he's no Jim Morrison. Eddie Vedder? My God, there's a singer."
  • On the Avocado tour they played those songs in an ongoing fashion until they were all played several days into the tour. Which means in San Diego we have a good chance of hearing Force of Nature (my current favorite), Unthought Known and Amongst the Waves...

Best song ever, I agree. Took me a while to decide.
He who forgets will be destined to remember...
  • It is def the best song on Backspacer. The lyrics are beautiful!!
Eddie outdid himself on this one!

I really like the song, but I really don't like Ed's vocal delivery in it.

    Good song though.

OK good point. But I think Unthought Known would be a great show opener.

Back from Seattle 1 and 2. I'm so happy to have been able to listen to the songs from BS with a lot of them being played the first time.
Unthought Known is one of my new favorites and for me it's maybe the best from BS. But I still have to listen to the album a number of times.
I liked the string quartet. The song had such a deep and beautiful feeling. Ed's voice was so clear and deep and vibrating. I definitely hope that this song will be a new part of future setlists.
