Backspacer is to Pearl Jam is what...

Whether this is ever considered their 'best' album is irrelevant, they've made a mid-career album that kicks arse! It deserves widespread appeal and commercial success. But they have not 'sold out' in any way. It takes a different journey than their other albums, but it is simply brilliant. You put all this album on and listen first to last song and go on a journey with the band.

Comparisons to classic albums... Backspacer is to Pearl Jam is what...

Back In Black is to AC/DC
The Black Album is to Metallica
Exile On Main St is to Rolling Stones

Your turn...

Yes they do, and depending on the commercial and radio success of this album, it could do the same, but most diehard fans don't consider them as defining albums - that usually happened earlier in the band's career.

Nah... they're both massively successful but transitional at the same time...

Back In Black doesn't define AC/DC - how about the Bon Scott era albums???
Black Album also unlike what came before and most of what came after...

Well I meant 'to the masses." I'd say that Master of Puppets or And Justice....defines Metallica. I don't know much about AC/DC so I don't know. But by the popularity factor, It'd be Ten is to Pearl Jam as Black Album is to Metallica.
