The second single must be:

The second single off this album HAS to be Amongst the Waves. The titles is just about the only thing that's awkward about this tune. Otherwise, it's the most radio-friendly thing they've turned out since... I don't know when. And it's the closest they've come to aping a retro-Ten-era sound possible ever. And yet it has a very late--era-PJ sensibility to it. I think it's a perfect single and would make a lot of people very happy.

Maybe "Just Breathe" for a third single, if it comes to that?

Thoughts?

Why do people keep saying this one sounds like Ten? It sounds nothing like it.

I would have to say force of nature. THE catchiest tune on the record.

The chorus and solo sound like something that could have been a b-side from Ten era, at least to me. The whole song as a package would have fit rather nicely on Yield. Kinda reminds me of In Hiding. No surprise that it's a Gossard tune.

    Fuck, I love this song.

    "Better loud than too late."
  • i haven't heard force of nature or amongst the waves, but if either is catchier than got some, the fixer, or supersonic, then i'll never get this album out of my head.

Catchy as hell, yes. (Although I find Got Some to be the catchiest.)

Still, I think Force of Nature is a little too... I don't know... Jammed with music and lyrics to do well on the radio. It's not a simple tune. Radio likes simple. Especially these days.
  • i cant say since i havent listened to anything other than PJ for 6 months i have no idea what radio rock sounds like right now - but i'd say Gonna See My Friend or Got Some
  • There is no doubt that it will be Got Some

I don't think it would be a terrible choice, but I'd actually be surprised if they picked this one. They usually don't do two uptempo songs as singles (Avocado being the exception.) Anyway, I think it would probably do well, but I still think Amongst the Waves would be the best choice.
  • "Amongst Waves" would be the smartest pick. I think a lot of people would gravitate towards its incredibly uplifting sound and inspiring words. Hell, this should of been the first single!!!!
I fuckin love Ed's vocal delivery of Got some and the aggressive nature of that song but I don't think it would work as a single

If we're talking radio-friendly songs, I'd go with either Got some or Gonna See my Friend.

While I like Force of Nature and Amongst the Waves better... I just dont know if they'll get the type of radio play a faster and catchier chorus based song like Gonna See My Friend would get.
