Similar to the LA Times review in that it doesn't wait time on Target, 'return to form' cliches, and obligatory grunge references.

"Pearl Jam made peace with their hard rock past on their eponymous eighth album, but its 2009 sequel, Backspacer, is where the group really gets back to basics, bringing in old cohort Brendan O'Brien to produce for the first time since 1996's Yield."

    Should I read any further?

    Touche. ;)

Don't mind me. I just have the expectation that reviewers have to go through an editorial process where some fact checking is done. I fully understand that they don't care about getting every small detail correct so much as building an accurate broad picture.

He was probably more concerned with describing the feel of the record. He did the same thing with Binaural and Riot Act, if I'm not mistaken.

I'm surprised he chose "Speed of Sound" as a Track Pick, though.

Other than the "1996's Yield" part that's a pretty fair review. 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.

I honestly think Speed of Sound and The End are the two best tracks on the record.

And 4.5 stars out of 5 from this site is awesome.
