Quadrophenia saved my live, too, so this article hit home.

Beauty is not love.
Love is not music.
Music is the best."

I would still go and see them live, for the experience of it. I think the writer was perhaps a little harsh.

The irony here is that even though the author mentions Ed as in a positive way to back up his point, I think the same thing applies to PJ - Ed has changed his style with maturity (and constant working/touring has helped keep his chords sharp) but there will come a day when he won't physically be able to sing certain songs anymore. It'll be interesting to see how that affects the band's music and touring in the future, and I mean that in a positive way. As a fan who is also maturing, I'm exited to see what happens next.
I smile, but who am I kidding...

  • I read this yesterday (but saw the concert when it was on TV) and have been listening to Backspacer today and had a bit of an idea. How cool would it be if Pearl Jam decided to do a rock opera-esque album? They've scaled things back a lot lately, but on Backspacer they seem to be okay with introducing new elements (like on The End and Just Breathe) while still keeping things straight forward. Maybe they could work with Townshend after Daltrey's touring days are over, even if Pete only works on arrangements with them? Actually, even a Townshend-Mirror Ball would be amazing. Wow, this is a total daydream, but I thought I'd pass it on...

Seriously! I had forgotten how FUCKING AWESOME that is!!! That video alone proves why Pearl Jam is the greatest living rock band. It doesn't just sound like perfection, it's fun to watch. Who else has moves like Mike McCready???

I hate to think of Eddie losing his voice the way Daltrey has, but I guess that's many years away...

Jesus I had to stop listening to Backspacer in order to watch that video, they fucking kill that shit. That performance takes me back every time I see it. Eddie's voice is pure gold in those videos and Mike looks like a little kid in a candy shop on his guitar parts.
