make more songs like johnny Guitar pwease

edited September 2009 in The Porch
i realize a few people are gonna declare Jihad on me for saying that, but this song is insane. never heard Ed sing like that, but i'm down with it. I usually hate Matt songs with a passion, and fully expected this one to suck, but this song comes off effortlessly. Its groovy, funky, and rocking. I find myself skipping track 3 (whatever its called) to get to this one.

You know at first listen I thought it was only OK, but I love the cool guitar groove in the middle, would love to hear that one in concert.
I honestly find myself completely looking forward to ever song on the album. They are all great which I can't say about any of their other albums, there are always those fillers I don't care for or the Bushleaguer, Army Reserve songs.

I'm in! I loved this on first listening, know some people dont but everyone's got their own opinion and this rocks, it's easy to like and will go down well live. And track 3 is The Fixer.

  • To me it's just another Matt masterpiece. It has elements of songs he's written in the past. It looks like people are finally pulling their heads out of their asses and recognizing Matt for the brilliant songwriter that he is.
  • I think what really makes this song is Ed's vocal phrasing. It's just so... special. It sounds really good. Oh, and there's something funny about hearing Ed sing a line like "Johnny he be havin' lots of women" :D

Yes, I found that line quite hilarious.

I didn't really like the song that much on my first listen. It was definitely Ed's vocal phrasing and the odd timing that threw me off. But after going back I think this will be the song that grows on me the most and could end up being in my top 2 or 3 from the album. The phrasing really does make it unique, and it's got that classic Matt-altered timing. And that little guitar riff in the middle is excellent.

This album is full of solid guitar riffs. Nothing jumps out as a stand alone riff the way it does in Do the Evolution or Evenflow or Alive, but these songs are based much more on the nuanced collective sound. I like it.

  • This is a good song alright! I think one of the things I like most is how different it is, lyrically and musically, from other PJ songs. The lyrics tell a great story - who hasn't fallen for a hot chick on an album cover before?!? ;) It's a fun song, good to see Ed singing lines about Johnny having lots of women, etc. Fun stuff!

I'd prefer to leave those songs where they belong, in Whitesnake's wheelhouse.

I like it....the guitar reminds me a lot of The Raconteurs stuff...I think that influenced the sound here a bit

"Johnny Guitar" brought back some funk to Pearl Jam's sound....and that has been missing for quite a while now.
