seriously, why would the band use anyone else... ever? After about my 50th listen to the new album  I've started to really notice the little amazing things in producing that are on this record. A good example of this is the subtle echo on Ed's voice at certain high points on Unthought Known... fucking brilliant

Give Backspacer some time and I'm sure you'll grow to love it. I'd recommend listening to it on headphones with an alcoholic beverage or some herbal refreshment ;)

He has done a great job - you can feel matts kick on supersonic - even at low volume.

Is it too early to say 'Masterpiece'? I

'd love to see him take a shot at Binaural - I love it the way it is, but imagine it getting the O'bien bump?

    Agreed...the man is a genius.
  • Pearl Jam would be down right silly not to have Brendan O'brien produce every album from now on...

Why mess with a good thing?

  • I would be suprised..If pearl jam doesn't have Brendan O'brien produce the next album...Just makes sense...The albums Brendan O'brien have produced imo are the best pearl jam albums...Can't give all the credit O'brien on those albums...But, I am sure he has some input on how the album is going to turn out...

You definitely can't give him all the credit but you can certainly hear and feel his influence on the PJ albums he's done. I hope they use him for every record from now on.

  • Yes, the man is a genius. I agree, they should never use anyone else. I kind of feel like they "learned their lesson" during the hiatus from O'Brien. Don't get me wrong, I love the unique feel and sound to the other records, but he is just a master. They'd better keep him around.

    Lets face it....

Brendan O 'Brien is a huge star on this album. It is obvious the band really listens to him and gives him alot of creative control, even in the songwriting process & performance. And with good reason!! He did an exceptional job on this one and I would like to thank him for being around this time and for his vital contributions.

    He is indeed the shit!

I loved the bootleg version of "The Fixer" from the Target commercial, then was put off by the studio recording at first, especially the piano part before "I want to try to love again."

But the rest of this album is a freaking master class of a recording IMO -- "Got Some" and "Unthought Known" are unreal.

And that's what separates good (Binaural) and great (Yield) for me.
"They said ... timing was everything
made him ... want to be everywhere
there's a ... lot to be said for nowhere."
  • Is B O B playing the keys on the record, its not credited anywhere.
  • I agree 100%. His albums sound amazing.
  • If Pearl Jam wants the sales to be good on future albums...Better stick with Brendan O'brien...
