yes, i agree. the way he belts that part out, step in step with the build up of the keys and drums, you can't help but *FEEL* it.

  • Although he might be overreaching vocally with the end it seems he can still deliver with this song.

i don't see/hear it as overreaching...i think he's in touch with the song. the mood of that song lends itself to a very vulnerable vocal performance. at least, that's how i see/hear it.

  • LOVE the melody build up in this song and that line is amazing! "You'll be no one's rival!" is a pretty intense delivery too.

    Regarding "The End"
I have to admit when Ed sang this on the solo tour, it somewhat made me cringe watching him try to reach some of these notes - and if you knew me, you'd know - i am never, NEVER, critical of Ed singing - but this song had places that made it very difficult to watch. It looked painful.

However, I like the view MFC has shared regarding the song lending itself to a vulnerable vocal performance. I never thought of it that way. Thanks for the new perspective :)

Actually that "vulnerable" line originally came from Stone when he talked about Ed's vocal work on "The End" in this Billboard interview:
