No, Eddie, No! Why did you do it?! It was so much fun to try to figure out the lyrics on the first listen, and then over time change my perception.
I guess I'll need to forget what I read about the first couple songs, and then read the entire article after I've listened to the album a bit, and tried to figure it out a bit. It would be cool to see how close I am.
There is no such thing as leftover pizza. There is now pizza and later pizza. - anonymous The risk I took was calculated, but man, am I bad at math - The Mincing Mockingbird
loved this quote, seeing how I am in the same place as him, wife and 2 kids:
“There's never a dull moment on the road – every day it's something. Maybe that's why my goal is the dull moment. That's what this song is: It's saying, ‘Just stop, and be together. Don't talk now, just breathe and feel each other's presence – now that the kids are in bed.'
and this on my favorite track, Unthought known:
I got back late to my hotel in New York, and I pushed it that extra hour. I pushed the limits of how much you can drink and smoke, and this song came out of it. I think the thought of the song is that there are things that you know, and they're in us, but we just haven't thought of them. But they're there, and we base decisions on them.”
that "new" expression for syaing something is great/cool....will never cease to amuse me. :P
that said, great read!
others have been culling info from it elsewhere on the board, first time i saw it in it's entirety. i really like his description/reasons for the fixer, so true.....just wish i liked the song more. and funny, i love, love, love elvis costello.....and yet, johnny guitar is one of my lest fave tunes on backspacer, i hear no costello in it, at all. odd how that all is. however, great to hear some thoughts direct from ed, love just breathe and his comments about it fit perfectly, yeeeaaaaa.....and unthought known, very cool! and hell, hanging out having late night drinks with ed, catherine keener.....THAT would be amazing!
twas searching threads about johnnie geetar, and that f'n rawkin geetar rift 1min into the song and this thread came up and just at a time when im getting there with the music part of backspacer and ready to jump into the lyrics, this weekend....soooo amazing timing for a song by song review by the man who writes alotta those words!!
