Come on.....

I know this thread will be deleted and/or I'll be at the mercy of the moderators....but this is too much. I just commented on a lyric from Just Breathe and the thread disappeared. The mods argue that by discussing the songs, we promote the pre-release downloading of the album. I disagree with that.

First off, you don't have to pay for ANY album from ANY artist if you don't want to. It'll always be available on torrents. So the fact that it leaked is irrelevant. People who are going to buy the album will buy it. People who are going to download the album would have downloaded it on September 20 if it didn't leak anyway.

The vast majority of people on this board who have downloaded the leak are still going to buy the album. I've had it downloaded since Saturday and am listening to it right now...but I still eagerly await buying it on Sunday. I want that disc! I want to read the liner notes, check the artwork, see if Carpenter Newton had anything to do it. I'm astounded that the mods think that TALKING ABOUT the Backspacer songs shouldn't be allowed. Posting links to it here on the board? No way. If a blogger uploads the link on his blog, should the Tenclub make him take it down? Totally. Even mentioning that there is indeed a leak shouldn't be allowed. But it's really just an insult to not let people talk about the content of the songs.

Luckily for Pearl Jam, I'm addicted to them like I'm addicted to cigarettes...so I'll be buying the album on Sunday. But if I was new to the message board and saw that the were being this anal and lame over something so silly (talking about the songs), I'd probably say, "Wow, they're REALLY trying to protect their buck here. Screw it, I've already downloaded the album, why bother buying it now?"

I challenge the mods to wait at least a half-hour before deleting this and maybe even to comment back if they'd like.

On the flip side, why can't you just respect the band's wishes and wait until monday when everyone can discuss it?

    "Respect the band's wishes"

You respect your mom's wishes when she's on her deathbed. I love Pearl Jam...and I'm going to buy their album. But they're the ONLY band whose album I buy. I download everything else. Sure I downloaded it. But I'm also going to buy it. Isn't that "respecting" them enough? I love Metallica too....but I didn't go out and get Death Magnetic because I downloaded it.

there are plenty of other places to discuss the yet to be release album...this is the bands world and that's the way they want it...not saying either side is right or wrong but it is what it is and in a few days this place will be lousy with backspacer :D

I'm rethinking it a little after reading these "it's their playground" type of posts. But I just refuse to believe that talking about the songs on this message board could possibly affect the sales of Backspacer. If anything, all the early praise of the album would encourage someone who is just browsing the website to buy it.

yeah but the press can read this place...all it would take is one or 2 bloggers to read someone here that hates the album and post it and suddenly "pearl jam fans hate backspacer"...that's a leap i know, but look what happened with the target commercial shoot...rolling stone quoted that post

It's kind of annoying that radio stations have it already and are advertising that they will be playing throughout the night and how you should listen and then subsequently listen to their boring commercials. But I don't listen to terestrial radio so it shouldn't bother me. But if the radio stations are playing it, why not open it for discussion, except for the fact that some ultra cool voiced slick DJ will talking through most of the song.

You just read in my mind

    I admit it - I dl Backspacer.

But I bought the Backspacer cd. this is the only band which I bought all Their albums.
I just can't stand the time of waiting.

Now, I am listening new songs like I have been doing for 3 days.

Sorry if The Bands don't think it's right. I have my own morality. i just need it earlier than it will come.

And I don't smoke. PJ is my only drug

what i find funny about all this is not the fact that the album has leaked and peoples threads are getting locked for talking about it but the fact that Pearl Jam/10c forums/the mods are doing everything they can to censor this board and delete the comments as fast as they can.

It seems like only 2 years ago that Pearl Jam was making headlines over the AT&T censorship issue at Lollapalooza...wait, what?

it's especially unfair to be expected not to talk about it on it's week of release when you've received an email saying you'll get it in four to six weeks time. Completely unfair. To beat the leak it should have been shipped in time to arrive this week for international members. It's complete folly to expect people to sit on their hands, not download it and then not disscuss it after getting told 'hey you've another whole month potentially before you'll get your copy.' Shitty business prcatice.
  • Kudos to the mods for leaving this up. See, freedom of speech is completely dead around here. it's just censored sometimes.
