Baucus' health care proposal drops public option

Fox is reporting that the Baucus bill has no public option, will Obama take it?

"The proposal requires all individuals to buy health insurance or pay a fine."

Employers are also concerned. Although they won't be required to offer insurance, "an employer will be charged a $400 fee if their workers receive a tax credit from the government to purchase coverage." But "[e]ven if just one employee gets help, the fee would be multiplied by the total number of employees at the firm," which advocates for the poor say could "discourage some companies from hiring low-income workers." Insurers worry about an additional fee, and "[d]octors are upset Baucus has not given them as much relief from scheduled Medicare fee cuts as have Democrats in the House"

I guess Kucinich was right, once again....we are mandating health insurance, not health care

on a related note they were also claiming Obama's plan was unconstitutional but i didn't see why

what are you but my reflection? who am i to judge or strike you down?

"I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank." - Barack Obama

because its unconstitutional to FORCE someone to have healthcare insurance.

just makes it cumbersome to debate the same topic in 4 different threads.

no its not. a car is a machine. you can hurt people with it. using a car isn't a right, its a privilege. it makes sense to force people to be covered when using a machine.

    Norm said it.

I like what IHSN said about car insurance. THIS is the big picture here. Insurance, the pyramid scheme that it is has used the strong arm of the government to make itself LAW. It shouldn't be LAW. It should be optional if insurance companies weren't run like banks using money that they don't even have to run their business. The problem is, at this point it has become so ingrained into our society that removing insurance seems like it would be more catastrophic than anything. I don't know that this is true or not.

Basically, insurance companies have created a need for themselves, and have gotten filfthy rich in doing so. Chalk it up to another mistake that older generations made by trusting the government far too much and allowing insurance to merge with government.

    ...
That is true... driving is NOT a right, it is a privilege.
But, if you CHOOSE to drive, it is mandated by the state that you provide coverage.
If we look at Health Care in the same manner... those who CHOOSE to opt out of paying, should not receive any coverage. So, if they do have a health problem... they can pay all of the doctor's bill and receive no assistance. Just like you can avoid paying for auto insurance if you can post bond for the minimum liability coverage. Should you get in an accident where you are liable, you are on your own and will have to pay for everything.

Then, borrow that part like the Canadian System... by state (Province). The needs of Californians are completely different then the needs of Iowans. There is nothing that says it cannot be done that way.

I'll let Senators Boxer and Feinstein know, as well as Representative Royce.
I think it a good idea.
