I know that Backspacer, and everything before has flaws that the critics see. For me Backspacer is a new beginning in a much anticipated Pearl Jam release. I'm a fan of their music and to date the have not been disapointed, be it tour or release. So critics take all your skepticism and with you. I want decent music, I want it now and I want it to ROCK!. Stop analyzing it, stop discussing every other alblum and just enjoy what you see and hear.

You do know there's an edit feature to avoid looking like a complete tool, right? Least you could do is spell the album title correctly.

NME hasn't reviewed it yet, maybe they wont. They have hated PJ from day one.

Since the coffee's not ready yet and I'm still in a decapitating mood I'll go ahead and repost something I wrote last night that responds to a similar blanket statement re: reviewers.

The reason I review albums on Antiquiet is to provide a bit of insight to people who may not be familiar with the artist, or on the fence about whether or not to give the new album a shot. I do my homework and come equipped, or I steer clear entirely, as any responsible journalist should do. Growing up, I would've loved to have had a reliable journalistic resource to light the way a little bit, so I wasn't flying blind with only the fm dial and my friends to turn me on to new music. But that was all in the pre-internet days.

I won't link directly to my Backspacer review (to avoid diluting the message here), but here's our reviews page:
http://www.antiquiet.com/reviews/ As you can see, almost nothing I've reviewed over the years has gotten less than three stars out of five - and that's not at all because I'm not a critical listener. If a record is bad, I simply won't review it. There's plenty of shit talking and disrespect of art on the internet, and I see no need to add to it... on a regular basis, anyway. But if it's good, and especially great, I'll do my best to honor the music in my own words as best as possible. I've lived and breathed music literally since birth, and my education was centered on sharpening my ability to portray my thoughts on my life's greatest passion.

If it's not at least a 3 star album, I simply steer clear of it on Antiquiet - or let my partner handle it. I do that out of respect for the art itself. So you can fuck right off yourself, "Mervin".

I also see you decided to talk more about yourself then the issue at hand. Re-read the OP and think about your response this time. Don’t tell me how wonderful you are as a critic but look at the bigger picture. Are all critics like you? Do they always look for the good in things or maybe just maybe do they walk the line between yay and nay?

PS Glad to see that my post was on your mind all night. Did this upset you so much? If so I’m sorry that you would have taken this personally. It really was just what I said it was a rant.

Pay a little closer attention. I didn't read your post till this morning. And what the fuck do you do for a living? Please, enlighten me, so I can shit all over *that* and then pull this kind of attitude. I feed my children and keep a roof over our heads by doing exactly that which you're talking shit on, and I go out of my way to do it with integrity, to bring some balance to the uninformed bullshit (of which there is much, I will agree).

And sure kid, I'll edit your term paper. Going rate is $45 an hour.

I think it's hilarious when people downgrade an argument to "wow, I seem to have really gotten under your skin". That shows lack of intelligence and/or maturity.

I can appreciate that, J, because I have the same vein of thought which is a reason why I read you. Someone asked me why I write the way that I do and why it's generally complimentary. I told her that it takes more energy than I have to invest time in something that turns me off versus what turns me on. I just don't have any interest in ripping something/someone to shreds...unless it's truly warranted it or has the potential to cause internal injuries if I don't. Like Glasvegas. If I want the snarky and annoyed there's always Pitchfork.
