I'm sorry, it was just totally unexpected. I don't always laugh at the deaths of celebrity giraffes. But I'm 1 for 2 so far... yes, I do remember Geoffrey.
  • Sylvester Stallone is in a giraffe movie that "stars" Kevin James?!

Stop filming NOW, before it loses hundreds of millions at the box office.
"May you live in interesting times."
  • You mean to tell me that Geofery the girafe was modeled after a real girafe? WTF

Cable TV and the internet put more people into the public eye over the past 20 - 30 years. We've created more 'celebrities' so this had to happen sooner or later.

Would any of us know who Billy Mays was if wasn't for the advent of the infomercial? How many people actually saw a John Hughs film at the theater? How about Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein? I would not have know of him if wasn't for the fact that he was engaged to Nicole Richie (what exactly is she famous for?) and survived a plane crash with Travis Barker ? Would Micheal Jackson have been as famous as he was if it wasn't for his videos on MTV?
    I can't teach common sense.

I was confused too... so I had to get to the bottom of this giraffe mystery.

I seem to remember a story about a famous giraffe who died, back in the 80s, I think, and I must have confused that with the story of Geoffrey. So it looks like Tweet the giraffe was used by Toys R Us to play Geoffrey...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoffrey_the_Giraffe (which takes you to Toys R Us, then pan down to "Mascot") says:

In the 1960s, an anthropomorphic giraffe cartoon character was introduced as Toys "R" Us' mascot. His name, Geoffrey the Giraffe, followed in the 1970s, after a "Name the Mascot"–type contest. In 1973, Geoffrey was given a family with the addition of his wife Gigi. However, over time and with different marketing campaigns, it has been unclear as to whether Gigi is Geoffrey's wife or sister. Also in 1973, Geoffrey's daughter, Baby Gee, was introduced. In 1979, his son Junior (a.k.a. Geoffrey Junior) was added. Geoffrey was then re-introduced in 2001, after being given a full makeover. He then appeared not as a cartoon character, but rather as a real-life giraffe who talks; an animatronic version of Geoffrey the Giraffe (created by Stan Winston Studios) was voiced by Jim Hanks, brother of actor Tom Hanks, in commercials for radio and television. The character's present appearance is again that of a cartoon.

On September 14, 2009, it was learned that Tweet, the giraffe used for the Toys R Us commercials in the early 2000s as well as “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” died on Friday September, 11 2009 after filming his latest movie at the Franklin Park Zoo.

The 18-year-old giraffe apparently collapsed while feeding and in the care of his trainer, and had completed shooting his part in the movie, Kevin James' “The Zookeeper.” [12]

OK, now can I rest....

    I don't want to put anyone on a downer..............but..............
My Mother Inlaw slowly died in March 09 from cancer.
My Mum quickly died mid August 09 from a third stroke.
My Dad dropped dead immediately one day, 2 years prior.

We do hear about people dying alot more than we use to, and just because they are celebs does not mean they are more important than that kid that just starved to death in modern day Australia, or the child bride who died from giving birth after a 4 day labour.

I believe in a better place from here, so when I hear someone else has died, it dosen't hurt so much.

Man................can someone step in here and take this Thread off a downer............

umm............I hope some ghosts attend PJ concerts....That would ROCK!!!!
