then they'd prolly just keep touring a bit - ...
but one thing to remember is that they are a band that would never break up through reasons of not liking each other. They have proven that they can last with each other and so the relationship can only get easier with age. so the only reason that pearl jam would stop is health issues, say if someone just couldnt do it any more or if ... well i wont say it.
they will hang the guitars up one day, but they are a band that will play music (with each other) untill it just cant be done anymore - and even then there will be light touring projects and what not... and until then the albums will keep pouring in every 3 or 4 yrs.

And how many GREAT final albums exist today? you know... like hitting a game winning home run on your last at bat.
'Abbey Road'... but, that's The Beatles and they are in a different league than everyone else...
...
'In Utero' - Nirvana... yeah, but that doesn't seem to count... to me, at least.
CODA - by Led Zeppelin? I don't think so.
Face Dances - The Who? Nope.
The Final Cut - (The Real) Pink Floyd? Cannot surpass 'The Wall'.
...
I would hope that Pearl Jam comes out with a GREAT last album... but, the chances are slim.

i agree 100% until then the albums keep pouring in. nothing will stop this band from making music. the talent and friendship they have together is just great. keep'em comming ill buy everyone.
it wouldn't shock me if there were 1 more studio album in 2 or 3 years, a long interlude of solo work and side projects, then a final collaboration and tour. i wish and hope it will be more, but the guys have families and don't really need the money.
I'm not really sure when money really entered into the picture for these guys when it comes to making music and playing shows. I mean, just because you have money doesn't mean you can just turn off the creative switch, nor the desire to keep going.
I hope they make music only as long as they want to, and no longer.

good point, but with their own record label i have to think the lack of obligations to produce would have some effect. i guess i just figure that at this points in their lives and careers they have the liberty to explore other interests and spend time with family. i don't doubt that their creative juices will keep flowing, but i just anticipate that we may have to wait more in the coming years. i hope i'm wrong.
Didn't Ed say something about being about half-way through their career? Thought I remembered that from an interview... but am to lazy to put the effort into it. It was about a month or maybe more ago...

Yeah a final collaboration, a la the final Dewey Cox performance at the Hall of Fame (minus Ed introducing the band as he did in Walk Hard!). Tryin' to picture PJ in their mid-late 60's rocking out Even Flow one more time...Stone battling arthritis to do the little duck walk...Jeff only getting about 6 inches of vertical in his leap right before the solo...Mikey trying, but not quite able, to lift the '56 Strat over his head during the solo...and Ed just saying "Thank GOD this is the last time we ever have to play this goddamn song!"

I think one guy above me makes a good point about the time frame between albums maybe getting shorter. As they get older, they may not be playing big tours anymore, which would make more time for studio. I THINK I remember one of the guys stating something about the length of the tours getting shorter, as they won't always hit every corner of a given country anymore.

to quote the Winnipeg Sun article directly, from August 24 2009 I believe, this is Stone's comment:
"But don't expect Pearl Jam to be out on the road months at a time supporting it. Gossard says they will continue touring, but would 'love to make records and tour in smaller increments over the next 20 years'."

I'd like see a yearly EP, which I think Mike said something about. Toss us 5 or 6 really good songs per year accompanied by a mini-tour. I think that would keep everyone satisfied. I've always been a big fan of the EP anyway and I think that would really work well this day and age.
Maybe do the full length thing once every 4 or 5 years.
"Darkness comes in waves, tell me, why invite it to stay?"
Just from the tone of the interviews I've heard lately,(especially eddie's interviews) I can see the band creating new music and performing live for years to come. I agree with the one post that said the only thing that will stop this band is health and old age. The time between albums may increase and the length of tours may decrease but I see Pearl Jam sticking around for a long time. Then again I could be completely wrong. Only time will tell.

Exactly.. 20 years, nine albums down.. 20 years, 9 more albums to go.. retirement isn't until age 65.
There'a a lot of music to be made to echo for generations to come..

I'm with you guys...I think there gonna go the Rolling Stones route and do it til they die. At least 5 more studio lps, 1 more super official live record ala Live on Two Legs, etc.
Whether this is scary or not is a another question altogether... ...

and even if not for them self releasing the records, i still can see them putting out close to 20 records in the bands lifespan.
