The Shades
Does anyone know what the reference to, or if there is one, on Rearview Mirror when the Lyric goes "finally the Shades are raised" and in Daughter "The Shades come down". It has always meant something to me and it has been powerfull. Anyone else?????????

I see it as letting the light (or enlightenment) in - RVM and keeping others from seeing in - Daughter
daughter as we all know is about a girl with a learning disability. When she can't make her mother proud...the shades go down (ie nobody sees what goes on)
rearviewmirror --finally the shades are raised--meaning the abuse is behind you. In your rearviewmirror.
At least thats the way I interpret it.
The other connection is: "I guess it was the beatings, made me wise"

For Daughter: Always presumed just a metaphor for the darkness coming into the room......the abuse reappearing with the parent coming home....
Im here all week. Remember to tip your waitresses......
I saw a wino eating grapes, I said, "Dude, you have to wait"
