so not to rain on all the happenings w/ everything right now, I thought it might be appropriate to mention these protests outside of D.C. recently. What's with the thousands of people protesting Obama's health care reform & saying he's become a Socialist similar to Hitler & Nazi Germany?? BTW, I've seen some of these folks in downtown Seattle w/ the tables set up & pictures of Obama as Hitler, Nancy Pelosi etc...

First off, I do believe the president & the administration is doing helluva better job so far than the entire 8 years of Bu$h & his cohorts. I mean, Obama hasn't even been in office for a year & already the harsh criticism. These naysayers & right wing nuts need to shut up & let the admin. handle things before rushing to conclusions.

I DIDN'T RUSH TO CONCLUSIONS YEARS AGO UNTIL BU$H REPEATEDLY FUCKED UP OVER & OVER THEN ACTED LIKE NOTHING WAS WRONG!!...That's grounds for protest NOT what's going on now....thank you

Wrong place to post this but since you asked the people marching yesterday all have sub 50 IQs. That's all you need to know.
  • I believe you posted this in the wrong section as this has absolutly nothing to do with Pearl Jam or their music.

Um if health care is a measure of a socialist country, then sirs America is probably one of the very few non-socialist countries left.

Maybe the people for it aren't as vocal as the people against it. Generally the better off have jobs that pay for private insurance, or so rich they can pay it with cash.

I don't know why countries have to be socials or capitalist.. they both have benefits.

    1. Government through fiscal policy, is supposed damper the highs/lows of the business cycle. Save when its rocking, spend when its down.

    2. Social goods... goods where everyone benefits whether they use it or not. Garbage Collection, Police, Firemen, National Guard, National Parks Service, etc... I think this is where health care fits in. Its a public good. Everyone is better off for having it. And it definately helps the poorer. Better off people have jobs that include insurance. So it is a socialist idea, but capitalism is about amassing profit, and allocating goods based on wealth. It doesn't protect people form the business cycle, it doesn't make sure people have the bare necessities of life. Government is there to do these things. Otherwise why do you need government?
  • Personally I don't think Socialism is that bad

Even though the National Socialist Party(Nazi's) has the word socialist in it, they were actually fascist's; on the opposite end of the political spectrum from socialism. So calling Obama a socialist while comparing him to Hitler makes no sense.

I disagree, I was down there in DC during the march they were some very intelligent people there saying what they felt they had to say. Some were orderly, peaceful and others acted like militants not much different than some of the many peace marches I've attended here in DC. Liar, liar pants of fire could be heard many times over or whatrever came to mind their minds.

However, one of the most distasteful signs I happened to see there was this one:

    OBAMACARE BURY IT WITH KENNEDY

I believe that one went over some line somewhere let the dead rest in some knd of PEACE please.

    Peace

I find it insuluting that people would compare a President of the United States to Adolf Hitler. Last time I checked the president has not set up camps where the sole purpose was murder of specific races. People on both extremes need to get a grip and choose their words more carefully when expressing their dissatisfaction with a president. Free speech is great, but comparing a President to a dicatator like Hitler is not the best usage of the first amendment.

We do have to remember that I can recall this was the first March on Washington from the right. They showed their emotion and anger stirred up from a massive media campaign. i have to tell ya I was quite surprised how many showed up from many out of town states. Some who live in DC spoke of how it felt like the intimidation from a KKK rally, I wouldn't take it that far cause they could've said the same about peace marches I attended.

    Peace

  • ...as if mainstream US politics even knows what a socialist looks like...
Hell, you dont even have social democrats. Well Kucinich could pass for one, but he is very fringe.

You're not getting right-wingers now, but socialists? I've said so before and I'll say so again. Calling Obama a socialist is probably an insult to him, and most definitely an insult to socialists.

Being for social programs and health care is not by definition socialist. One of the first to set up comprehensive welfare benefits was the arch conservative "Iron Chancellor" Bismarck of Germany.

So, unfortunately for those americans that would welcome some socialism, it ain't happening with Obama. He's a farily ordinary left-of-centre (US-wise, rather right-centre compared with anyone else) president. That may feel refreshing after 8 wing-nut years, of course, but I fail to see how he majorly differs from Bill Clinton apart from skin colour.

    Peace

I watched some of the rally on C-Span.org last night...
    http://www.c-span.org/Watch/Media/2009/ ... in+DC.aspx

Okay. I've been involved in some left-wing rallies in my time, and I've met plenty of kooks at such rallies, anti-war parades, green party conventions, etc. But this shit is the Kook Klux Klan!! Holeee fuck!!

I'm struggling to understand the mind that would make this statement (which is heard in the hilariously dramatic video played before the rally begins): "More unconstitutional czars are appointed in the first 7 months of the new administration than in 300 years of Czarist Russia." It just blows my mind that someone would present this statistic as if it has any significance to anything. I'm fairly sure the person who wrote that understands that a "czar" that works at the White House is nothing like a Czar that ruled Russia... but otherwise, what's the point of it???? And if this group is so upset about it, they should know that George W Bush appointed more "czars" than Obama has, including an "abstinence czar".

This tea bagger rally was far more entertaining that the VMAs. I hope they keep reminding us how fucking crazy they are.
