So I'm one of those people that needs music to be playing when I'm trying to fall asleep.. I'm early incapable of sleeping without it. Anyway I decided to make a playlist of Pearl Jam songs to play while falling asleep. If you had to do the same what songs would you guys choose?

Here's mine

Nothingman
Long Road
In My Tree
Off He Goes
Present Tense
I'm Open
I'm Still Here
Low Light
Strangest Tribe
Of The Girl
Slight of Hand

This may sound strange, but I find it hard to sleep with the softer Pearl Jam songs playing, they are so intricate that I can't not pay attention. Try to fall asleep listening to Otherside, I dare you. :P I was once lying down listening to Release from Tokyo 2003, and it impacted me so much I couldn't sleep all night..

Give me some fast paced songs like Rearviewmirror and Blood on low volume and I'm out like a light. :D

Might I recommend some RVM from the 2000 tour. A very good year, lots of extended jams. Hehe

    Release
    Oceans
    Sometimes
    Long Road
    Of The Girl
    WMA
    Off He Goes
    Fatal
    Thin Air
    Soon Forget
    Hard to Imagine
    Dead Man
    Guaranteed
    Strangest Tribe
    Man of the Hour
    Low Light
    Other Side
    Goodbye

    Parachutes
    Wishlist
    Thumbing My Way
    Society
    All or None
    All Those Yesterdays
    Around The Bend

It's pretty good, usually I put it on shuffle, but sometimes I go in order, I usually fall asleep during Dead Man b/c thats a very low song to begin with and my volume is always really low.

I usually take my Pearl Jam playlist on my computer..this includes all the ripped CD's, and concerts, some Vedder solo stuff, and the christmas singles...throw it on random and put the music just to the right volume.
But once in awhile I just want some acoustic PJ, so I pop in Benaroya and play that.

I am with you. I couldn't sleep to them either.

The suggestion of "Yellow Led's" being a song to sleep to; Military "representative's" coming to your house solemly letting you know a loved one has passed (On the front porch but they don't wave, box or a bag, etc.), sorry couldn't fall asleep to that. Check out "Two Feet Thick" for some insight on that song. Having heard these lyrics and interpretation makes it hard to fall asleep to.

please give me a fucking break. don't act all high and mighty and think that you are the only one who knows the meaning to that song. it's merely a good song to fall asleep to because it's not too hard, usually how PJ ends a show and a perfect night capper. this thread isn't about which lyrics makes you feel good and fall asleep. why didn't you call out dead man or release or long road or parting ways or basically any other song in this thread. not exactly the happiest songs. so please, get over yourself.

    Uh,
Sorry if I offended you. Take a look at the few posts I've made. High and mighty I am not. Pardon me for using my first amendment rights and giving an opinion.

As far as knowing the meaning of the song, the lyrics change and what I indicated is it's one interpretation. One that doesn't put me to sleep.

Release gives me chills. Of the girl,Low Light, Nothingman, I couldn't fall asleep to those either. I don't plan on disecting the whole list.

I simply stated the songs I saw, wouldn't help me fall asleep, yeah I know the post was "what helps you sleep", not "what doesn't". I could fall asleep drinking a cup of coffee, so the post doesn't apply to me anyway.
Sorry if i ruined your cherrios.

Um ... yeah. I think when it comes to making a "lights out" mix, subject matter has nothing to do with it.

Or else pretty much zero PJ songs would fit the bill.

You're just looking for a sound or a vibe. If you're listening to the lyrics, you aren't falling asleep anyway.

EDIT: So, it turns out this was my 5,000th post. Damn it all!

    Yeah,
I listen to them. I think most of us can relate to the lyrics in some way (some more than others). Some of those songs hit home. I didn't mean it as a jab to anyone, it's not my style.

I think you misunderstand me ... Of course, we all listen to the lyrics. The lyrics are the most important thing about Pearl Jam to me.

But not when I'm looking to fall asleep.

Then, it's just about the sound.

If you're listening intently to the lyrics, hanging on every word, you aren't trying to fall asleep, are you?

no hard feelings. you didn't offend me. it's just that every song in this thread has a negative feel lyric wise so why would you only say that about yellow ledbetter while also intimating that anybody who would want to go to sleep to that song doesn't grasp the lyrics? i guess i overreacted my bad.

    Thanks,
It's all good. I didn't mean to single your song out. I was quoting pearl jammer who indicated the slow songs are so intricate that it is hard to not listen to them. Yellow Leds is another one of those songs to me. I did not mean to dis you. Have a great day/night :-)
