Where the heck do you live?

    Lost Wages = Las Vegas

The Sierra Nevada is home to many rattlesnakes, scorpions, and tarantulas. My dad drives truck out to Nevada and back, and when I was a kid he'd bring home tarantulas in jars thinking that I'd be all into it...yeah, needless to say I fucking hate tarantulas, mainly spiders in general.

it made a big (((splat!))) when I nailed it with my flip flop.

I found this - "Scorpions can climb up walls and hide behind hanging pictures, and then after dark come down from the walls and become a problem for the occupants of the house" - on the internet and it creeps me out even more. The unspoken but understood part of this is that these fuckers can "become a problem".......while you're asleep.

  • Apparently the bigger they are the less poisonous, its the small ones that are really deadly.

    You are correct.

How big was the one you killed?
Also, be sure to shake out your towels before drying off after a shower. They apparently like to hide in damp towels...

Really, the biggest problem with scorpions here isn't them stinging people, it's them stinging your dogs and cats. I had a friend who's dog was sniffing at one and it stung it in the nose. Emergency vet fixed it right up, but scary nonetheless!

They are a "problem" here in AZ too. I've never seen one, but the pest control people come out every week to spray the outside for them, and cockroaches...another problem here.

They are not the usual city cockroaches you see, they are Sewer Cockroaches. They climb up from your drains.
I have a friend who has been dealing with them the last few months. They can get to be 3" long!

    I've been lucky so far...

Yeah, that's my worry. My dog would want to make friends with one.

My fiance just got back from Phoenix, Arizona and a house given to he from her Dad, and loves it compared to South Florida. Water seems to be the biggest issue but she may need to know about these scorpions though. She has thoughts of retiring there down the road.

At my friends holiday house overseas scorpions were a common sight.
Under my suitcase, on my towel, next to my shoes.
Freaked the shit out of me, especially when stumbling back home for the night drunk, scorpions are not what you want to see when drunk.
Found it hard to sleep because they were always crawling around.
They were about 1 inch small. Nearly got stung when I picked my towel off the suitcase, fell near my foot.
And 2 came running from under my suitcase.

Now here in Melbourne we don't have them, so I don't know...are they deadly?

I was stung by one of those fuckers in my apartment when I was going to school in San Marcos, TX! I had just moved in and was sleeping on a mattress on the floor with my girlfriend and some time in middle of the night one crawled into my bed with me and stung me in the back! I remember waking up hollering grabbed the thing from my back and flung it to the ground. I had to turn the light on figure out what the hell it was. I would explain the pain as having someone stick an electrified wire into your skin. The neve endings in my teeth felt tingly and weird for days.

If you’re wearing shorts, it will go for your legs; otherwise it may go all the way up to your face or neck . Its mouth opens four ways to become 4 very sharp fangs. If you are sleeping, it has been known to eat at your face and rip at the flesh. Don’t worry, its saliva will numb the wound almost instantaneously… by destroying the nerve endings. The saliva also inhibits healing. When your nose grows back , it’ll be hideously scarred. I honestly believe if these evil creatures were the size of a German Shepard, they would rule the earth!

Brilliant! There are some real mad fuckers about.
