Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder still uses a typewriter to craft lyrics, and the band's new album, "Backspacer," is named for a key on his favorite old technology.

I thought it was named after the Turtle, did the turtle get the name because of a typewriter?

The album title Backspacer is a tribute to a typewriter key that went out of use around 50 years ago.[19] Vedder is known to use typewriters when writing lyrics and letters.[19] Vedder said, "Backspacer [means] actually you kind of have to go back and look at your mistake."[14] Gossard said, "There's some retrospective moods on this record, where Ed is looking at both his past and his future."[29] The album title Backspacer was also used for the name of a leatherback turtle that was sponsored by Pearl Jam for Conservation International and National Geographic’s Great Turtle Race.[30]

So, what looked cool (sponsor to a turtle race) was all in the plan for the next album. It was just a big f..king advertise. Wonder what the turtle "backspacer" think about that? - Im gonna sue them for using me as a commercial!
Lucky for them that turtles cant speak.

  • That's Billboard's review, word for word.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river
