Not that this board is flooded with Sharks and Sens fans, but a pretty major move nonetheless...

  • not a fan of either team, but that looks good for the Sharks, Cheechoo is pretty much a throw away at this point...

Thornton and Heatley are going to own this season.

Heatly has become this error's "grand douche" taking the rains from Roenick and Tkachuk.

Still, the Sens got 2 serviceable players and a draft pick, and that distraction out the door so good for them

What a douche Healthy is now, I think this should reduce his chance at making The Olympics or will we forget about this in February?

I think it should hurt his chances. a lot of players have a problem with him for quitting on his team. That's something you don't do......

    yeah, but think about this

Spezza & Heatley, who clicked so well together, how about reuniting them after 5 months of not being together to rekindle some magic

can that be resisted, especially after 06 offensive futility displays

    we shall see

still, the Sens made a good deal, will Spezza return Chechoo to a 50 goal scorer? probably not, but 35 could be attainable

Michalek is the prize that the Sens are getting in this deal. He could be a poor man's Heatley (might be a 35 goal guy). Cheechoo should be a decent powerplay guy with Spezza. Spezza needs someone like Chara to come back and kick his ass off the ice to get him going. Not too many people know how driven Chara is, how hard he works off the ice and how he demands that his teammates work as hard as he does. It's no surpirse that the Bruins are where they are after they got that guy.

    great deal for the sharks.

on paper, not so much for the Sens, but we'll see how Michalek and Cheechoo fit in chemistry-wise. Its important they put Heatley behind them at this time

I live in the bay area, people don't seem too happy around here.

Cheechoo, while struggling, is a fan favorite and Michalek is still really young.

The only saving grace is that they didn't have to let Patty Marleau go (which was feared by some).

A lot of pressure on Heatley, that's for sure ... and the regular season don't mean a thing if the Sharks fail to get out fo the first round ... again.

A friend of mine asked me about this. My feelings:
    1. Do the Sharks need a potential chemistry issue in the room? Their team concept has been all the talk since last season's major playoff flop. Maybe they'll give Dany Boy the C. ;)
    2. Thornton to Heatley is going to be drool-worthy. Not to knock Spezza...well, yes, I am. It's Joe Thornton.
    3. Spezza to Cheechoo? Not so much. Cheechoo hasn't scored more than 23 goals since '06-'07 (yes, I know he's had injury issues). If you can't pot more with Thornton feeding you, well, see #2.
    4. Michalek is young, and I like him as a player, but this feels like a shot at replacing Antoine Vermette, who's a very rough comparable.

I don't think Heatley will make the Olympic team. They can easily replace his scoring. And since he offers nothing else, and potentially brings in too much baggage, why bother?

I'm not a Heatley fan believe me, but to say they can "easily" replace his scoring on Team Canada is a little ridiculous don't you think?

In the past five seasons, no Canadian has put up nearly as many goals as he has. So who will "easily replace" him?

IMO he's a lock on the team. Check the egos at the door and bring back gold!!! :D

Minus Heatley, here are last year's goal totals for the camp invitees. Does any one player have more goals than Heatley? No, but spread across the team, I'm pretty sure they can do without the guy. And this doesn't include potential offence from the blue line. If there's a lesson to be learned from 2006, it's that Team Canada needs proper balance and chemistry. (I say knock off the last seven or so players, as they were nice invites, but don't seem realistic shots. Lucic would be fun though, especially back in Vancouver.)

    Camp forwards, goals last season:
    Sidney Crosby, 33
    Ryan Getzlaf, 25
    Jarome Iginla, 35 (topped 40 3x)
Rick Nash, 40 (second 40 goal season)
    Jeff Carter, 46
Shane Doan, 31 (20+ every year staring '99-'00)
    Simon Gagne, 34(topped 40 2x)
Vincent Lecavalier, 29 (injuries, previous two years, 40, 52)
    Brenden Morrow (IR)
    Mike Richards, 30
    Ryan Smyth, 26 (30+ x5)
    Martin St. Louis, 30 (30+ x5)
    Eric Staal, 40 (40+ x2, 30+ x4)
Joe Thornton, 25 (assist man, not a scorer)
    Jonathan Toews, 35
    Patrick Marleau, 38 (30+ x3)
    Corey Perry, 32
Patrick Sharp, 26 in 61 games, 36 previous year
    Jason Spezza, 32
    Andy McDonald (IR)
    Derek Roy, 28
    Jordan Staal, 22
    Milan Lucic, 17
    Dan Cleary, 14

Heatley's another guy that I, as an Oiler fan, now love to hate. I hope they miss the playoffs and Heatley has a brutal year. sorry.
as for the oly's....whatever. I'll take him if he'll help us win...but....as mentioned here...he's not exactly mr.clutch.
