Recycling fraud

Not sure if I'm putting this in the right bit, it's not a global thing just local. But I'm really pissed off about it.

I live in a small town in a rural area, probably on the whole people are quite right wing here (unfortunately). I thought it was really good that there is a community recycling scheme with various recycling banks in the area, the scheme was used by a lot of people whatever their political persuasion.

Well, the scheme is run by a respected member of the community (probably respected because of the recycling), he has been on the local council for a number of years. He has now been arrested for fraud. He was apparently instructing the recycling lorries to drive through the weighing scales twice, so it logged two separate loads, then charged the local council for twice as many loads. Honestly, how can things move forward when tossers like this do such twatty things, unfortunately I can see a lot people losing faith in the scheme now.

Edit: Seriously though, people - even right wing yahoos - are smart enough not to allow this incident to stop them recycling. Maybe one or two will use it an excuse to stop recycling but I doubt that many will. If the people in your community have been recycling now for a couple of years or more then they'll more than likely continue, out of force of habit/routine if nothing else.
