In Hiding Lyrics help please

Hey guys!!
So I am thinking of Getting some Lyrics from In hiding tattooed on myslef. I was unsure if ed says and or I in a certain part, and after looking at the lyrics on this site, well now I am even more confused. Here is what I hear...these are the lyrics I want to get
I swallowed my breath and went deep, I was diving
I surfaced and all of my being was enlightened
My origional question was, is he saying " I swallowed my breath AND went deep, I was diving" , or is it " I swallowed my breath, I went deep, I was diving"
Also, now I am confused about the 2nd part as well, some places have it as " I surfaced WHEN all of my being was enlightened"
What do you guys think?
