New Album Temporarily Replacing Old

Does this happen to anyone else? It's so strange when a new album comes out from Pearl Jam because I get COMPLETELY immersed in it so much that I find myself ignoring even the thought of listening to older Pearl Jam. This phase goes on for about 3 weeks of non-stop listening to the album...then I slowly start integrating more and more of past songs, and soon my rotation of songs has changed with the new album intermixed...and newer songs can sometimes re-energize songs on older albums that I have not played as much in recent years.....it's almost like a setlist change...and then after about 2 months I am back to listening to every album from front to back..I cannot wait to hear Backspacer, because I know it will be exactly the same!!! 9-20-09 can't come soon enough!!

  • Let's just hope that pre order gets here a little sooner!
  • That totally happens to me with any new music I start to dig.

I feel the same way. I tend to forget about the album just before the new one, but then open up more to the album prior to the one before the new one. In other words, I'm starting to listen to Riot Act more often these days and not really thinking about Pearl Jam ST now. When ST came out, I put Riot Act on the shelf and got into Binaural again. In a few weeks, after I've played the hell out of Backspacer, all the albums will have equal weight to each other.
