wow that seems like a great deal. but then x 2 for me with the wife....so $50 bucks makes it seem less worth it. prob leaves from Port Authority, i think thats how they do it

122 roudn trip for me from chicago, plus a ton of hours.

i think i'd rather drive. amtrak is the same way.

flying is actually a better way to go from chicago. i'll most likely drive tho.

Megabus is only $1 each way and lists the station along with a map. ;)
  • Greyhound SUCKS. I have done it, but never again. Another cheap alternative-Take the NJ Transit train from Penn Station NYC to Trenton for $21.50 Round, then Septa R7 from Trenton to Philly for $6-10ish Round. Much better mode IMO.

Edit- This was my 1,000th post! I forgot I was holding out for a backspacer review as #1,000...Damn....
  • i'm taking a megabus with my brother. roundtrip for us both is $22.50. it's a nice bus too with free wifi

I made megabus reservation... spent about $26 total for round-trip to 3 shows.

but this nj transit to septa looks interesting and less traffic to consider.

What time does the band usually take the stage?
  • Seriously, if you don't wanna drive, the best choice is NJ Transit from Penn Station to Trenton, then Septa to 30th St. Station.

But if you want seriously cheap, then take the Dragon Bus. It goes from NY's Chinatown to Philly's Chinatown. I think it's only like $10.
  • Check out Megabus and Boltbus, but Megabus is cheaper.
I got a roundtrip for $2.50, yep, thats two dollars and fifty cents.
Check it out, certain times of the day are more but still cheap, like $5 and $10 one way
My friend just took it to Boston from NYC for $5 each way and said it was fine, no catch or fine print etc
If you look at the schedule and pricing you will see $1 tix as well, if there are no $1 tix then they are sold out but $5 is the next one up, cant beat that.
  • i've done it. not too bad. i don't know where in philly that station was though.
  • I think it takes you right to the 30th station in Philly, which is towards the city center(Like Penn Station or Grand central), then you can hop on the the subway from there and transfer at City Hall to get to the show or cab it.
  • The Megabus is probably the best way to go. The earlier you buy tickets the cheaper they are. It should drop you off at 30th st station. Then pick up a SEPTA convenience pass or a few tokens to ride the Market Frankford El Subway directly from 30th st station. Get off at City Hall and take the Orange Line Subway south. This will take you directly to the stadium...and it's the last stop on the line Orange Line. Should be a cheap trip. Check out Septa's website for more details.

If you're taking the NJ Transit/Septa Route, take the R7 to Suburban Station, which is the next stop after 30th Street and then change to the Broad Street Subway, which goes to the Sports Complex.

  • I would think the regional rail is definitely the way to go. It's only around an 11 minute ride on the Broad St line from city hall (suburban station, 15th st station, all connected) to Pattison Ave (the stadiums). If you did Amtrak to 30th it would be more expensive and you would have to get on the Market-Frankford El down to 15th st, but at least it's a free interchange to get on the Broad St line from there, just more of a hassle once you arrive in the great city of Philadelphia... lol

Septa has a reputation for sucking and it's obviously not even close to NYC's transit system but getting to/from the sports complexes is pretty convenient. I work downtown and go to Phillies/Eagles games or concerts from work at least once/twice a month and have never had any problems. Except for the pee smell. heh.

    +++++

Greyhound in Manhattan is at the Port Authority (on Eighth Ave at 40th). Greyhound ain't great but the ride to Philly isn't that long, and more than tolerable considering why you're going.

The Bolt Bus might be going to Philly by now. Great buses, with wifi.

And as others have pointed out, the Chinatown buses go to Philly.

I've taken the greyhound from Syracuse to NYC. As someone mentioned you come to the Port Authority - its pretty easy. (Its about 8 blocks from Madison Square Garden, if that gives you a mental idea of the location) There's an info. desk where you can find out where your gate is right when you go in. Its a pretty big place.

I suggest the amtrack train from Penn if you dont want to get stuck in traffic on the NJ turnpike

its quick and easy although probably double the price of the bus
and I am pretty sure the greyhound to Philly leaves from port authority
I hate taking the bus anywhere

    Exactly.
  • how are people getting back to New York after the concert? the only option seems like amtrak at 12:30 or greyhound at 2:00 AM ....any other ideas??
