So it is now only 1 week till Backspacer(if ten club comes through on 9-18-09 ;) )
And I am getting very excited.
When the new Pearl Jam album is released I will listen to it the same way I have all the previous releases.
Getting music from these guys over the years has been hard to put to words.
When Ten came out I would come home from school and spend hours in my room with headphones on getting lost in the world that Pearl Jam created.
When a new album comes out it feels like Christmas only better.
So when I get my copy of Backspacer I will tell my girlfriend that I will see her in a couple of hours
and do what I have done for the last 8 studio releases.
Put on the headphones and enter the world of music that Eddie and the guys have created.
While examining and reading every little word on the packaging several times thinking I will
find something new,and I always do.
Happy listening guys and girls...........................

Why do I get the feeling that this message board is going to be crazy next week?

I'm glad that PJ is still producing music.

I have bought every album on release day since VS.

Ever since Binaural, me and my best friend have gotten together the night of the release. We grab a pizza and a 6-pack, and hit repeat for several hours. It's one of the main reasons I wish they would put out albums more often: I really look forward to it. It's a fun tradition.

He also went to the Vitalogy midnight sale w/ me during our freshman year back in college, but then we went our separate ways for a year and missed the No Code release by about a couple of weeks before we started hanging out again. After not being friends for a year, he randomly passed me on his bike on campus in early-mid September '96. After saying an awkward hi, he then asks "So, what do you think of No Code?" We talked, caught up, and went back to my apartment to grab a bite to eat and hang out. Been best friends, again, ever since.

He and another good friends came over on Feb 5th to listen to Yield...missing the release date by 2 days. I was already well acclimated.

Ever since then, we've listened to the new album the day it came out, and we both refuse to listen to leaked copies.

I'm married, a father and 32 years old now -- i was 17 when i first stood in line for Vs., at a midnight sale (remember those?) in Birmingham, Ala., and i can't imagine not getting my hands on this as soon as the band allows me.

    Happy listening, everyone.

Exactly!! I miss that experience - hanging out with like-minded folk for several hours, sharing the anticipation, watching the clock.

    Ahh... the good old days.

Here's a breakdown of past PJ album releases and how I went about them:

Ten - (12/26/92) The only album of theirs I didn't get on the actual day of its release. Ten actually came out a year earlier (8/27/91). I used a gift certificate from Sam Goody I got for Christmas. I was a senior in high school (age 18).
Vs. - (10/19/93) I was actually late for one of my classes to get this when The Wherehouse next to the SJSU campus opened at 10am. I bought it on cassette (I wasn't up to the CD level yet), and got to class about 20 minutes late. That class seemed to go on forever and ever. After class ended, I had my next class later that day, so I went to my dorm room and listened away.
Vitalogy - (12/6/94) I had a copy of Vitalogy thanks to KROQ playing it in its entirety at midnight on 11/18 (My 20th birthday), so I just bought it on CD so I could look at the artwork and liner notes (and to also have it on CD). I had to wait until later in the afternoon that day because I was paid to take my mom's friends to the airport that morning. Or, rather I think I picked them up from LAX that day. Whatever. I bought it on CD and cassette.
No Code - (8/27/96) This was my first ever midnight release purchase of a Pearl Jam album. I can remember hearing Hail Hail for the first time, along with In My Tree. I knew that this Pearl Jam album was different from the first three.
Yield - (2/3/98) I got this from the same Wherehouse I bought No Code. I picked it up right when the store opened at around 10am, and then listened to it all the way to my dentist appointment in Los Angeles.
Binaural - (5/16/00) Midnight release sale at Tower in West Hollywood (Sunset). I didn't have a CD player in my car, so I had to drive home without hearing Binaural (the cassette version wasn't being sold - the last cassette version of a new Pearl Jam album for me). I did read the liner notes in the parking lot, and heard it being played from another car's stereo.
Riot Act - (11/12/02) Midnight sale at the same Tower on Sunset. Only this time my car had a CD player and I was able to enjoy the sounds of Can't Keep as I drove eastbound on Sunset. I remember getting to Cropduster as I approached Kaiser Hospital.
Lost Dogs - (11/11/03) I met up with a friend near Brea and bought it at a Tower over there. I also got STP's Greatest Hits that night.
Pearl Jam - (5/2/06) I bought this at midnight at the Tower on Lake Ave. in Pasadena, which is about 5 miles from my place. I popped the cd in and drove on the freeway until the last note of Inside Job. At that point I was around where Magic Mountain is off the 5 freeway. The return trip was my second listening of Avocado.
Backspacer - (9/20/09) No more Tower Record stores. Online music is more relevant these days. I just might break tradition and listen to my 10C version when I get it in the mail on the 18th or 19th next week. I might just hop in my car and drive 18 minutes one way and then 18 minutes back.
    11/6/95, 11/18/97, 7/13/98, 7/14/98, 10/24/00, 10/25/00, 10/28/00, 6/2/03, 6/3/03, 6/5/03, 7/6/06, 7/7/06, 7/9/06, 7/10/06, 7/13/06, 7/15/06, 7/16/06, 7/18/06, 10/21/06, 4/10/08, 4/13/08, 9/30/09, 10/1/09, 10/6/09, 10/7/09, 10/9/09

I was just at Target an hour ago. No midnight sales there. Maybe the Target in your neck of the woods is different.
