I want to get a sweet record player. I'd like the kind you can box up and take with you... Little suitcase style. One with a cd player in it would be the shit and I know I saw someone had one... I think it was D.

Can anyone point me in the right direction if you have done this homework before.

Thanks

    any other suggestions then?
    {if (work != 0) {
    work = work + 1;
    sleep = sleep - work * 10;}
    else if (work >= 0) {
    reality.equals(false);
    work = work +1;
    }system("pause");
    return 0;}
  • i don't think the words "portable" and "turntable" go well together.. imo

    Can't go wrong with a Technics player.

    Just picked the Crosley one from Target and I like it, because it was 100 bucks and has the built in speakers.

    I am not convinced that vinyl sounds better anyway, so I just like it so I can play the vinyl that I have. Plus I didn't wanna spend much anyway.

    I read a bunch of reviews and most of them say its a piece of shit. So... I continue searching.

    I'd love to do see it if it is available at target and I'd love to just buy it and go home with it and not pay shipping.

    Plus... target is my new favorite store and all so...
  • buy an old system off of craigslist near you.

    you can find some really nice old players, hooked up and ready to preview, if you buy them off of old folks moving in to a home, or what not.

    i got a darn nice late 70's vintage low-end high-end record player (the stylus alone goes for like $300 new) along with a hodgepodge receiver, cd changer, high end cassette deck (yes i said high end cassette deck) PLUS speakers, wires, and plugs all for $200 off of craigslist for my small\medium sized city.

    unless you want to break the bank on a new one, i say do that.
    just make sure the platter spins flat, at speed, that the connections work, and that the needle isn't damaged before handing over cash.

    you don't want to be looking for a stylus AFTER you buy an old player.

    or you could go new.
    just be prepared to pay for it.

    If I opened it now would you not understand?

    Yeah, what he said. I got a Sansui vinyl player, a Pioneer receiver and speakers for 110$. Most people already have speakers so you could shave 20$ off your costs right there. I had to travel a total of 6 miles to get my stuff off Cragslist.

    To the OP, I thought the same way you did, I just wanted something easy to play my Christmas singles on and maybe start a modest LP collection, so I bought a Crosley at K-Mart for 100$ very similar to that one. I was amazed at how bad the LPs sounded.

  • For my money, the Music Hall brand is the best turntable you can buy as far as quality and affordability. I've been playing my MMF-1 for years and I enjoy it more than my old Techniques - very user friendly. Every couple of years I get it tuned up and have the stylus put under a microscope to check how it's doing. It's always good to buy a new cartridge, but Music Hall's stock cartridges sound great. Don't go with a portable turntable. If you go with an old used one (that can also be a great choice) make sure you get the stylus checked out. A dull or poor quality needle can really do some damage to your records.

    Your vinyl doesn't sound better because you bought a Crosley at Target for $100. A quality record player with a good needle and you won't want to listen to digital in the house ever again.
  • I will help promote Target. They have record players there that look like old radios from the 30's. Some of them you can even plug in an ipod into also. They have 2 different ones. Target........
