So how many users are going to show up and start all the NEGATIVITY about the BAKSPACER release, when it finally arrives?

As some have said you can get a good feel from the clips..as I predict, Amongst The Waves will be the best song on the CD..followed by supersonic, just breathe, see my friends, got some, fixer..and the rest could even grow to be bigger!

Every CD by this band is different and is great in it's own way..this CD is pop and typical Pearl jam sound...its all good people!!!

  • It's gonna ROCK!!! 8-)

Based on the clips I've heard, I don't think I'll be amongst the negative people

You need to give yourself a month or so to really come away from it. I put on U2's cd and didn't like it at first, as DMB, and after a month it grows on you. Give it time if you don't like it right away.
  • It's very poppy, so there's going to be a lot of whiners.

Just think of all the "life's over" threads we are going to get.

I haven't listened to anything other than the Fixer.. I did that on purpose, I want to hear the album in whole not clips. This stems from back in the day of Unofficial boots when I would basically hear a new album before it was released and then ruin it for me. I want to be surprised.

I will bash it later

It's only fair to hear the finished product before bashing it. :)

    hahaha

after sept 20th I'm taking a 6 month-year break from the porch. the amount of bitching on here will def be at a all time high and undeserved.
Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight
    Sammi: Wanna just break up?

  • Backspacer seems like it's going to be a very polarizing album for 10C members. I think it's gonna be amazing...hooks are not always a bad thing. I can't wait.
"Had my eyes peeled both wide open, and I got a glimpse...of my innocense, got back my inner sence, baby got it...still got it"
  • personally, I think starting a thread that is nothing more than complaining about supposed "impending" negativity, it doesn't seem all that productive, or any better than the actual bashing that may or may not occur.

  • From what I've heard, Backspacer sounds fantastic. I can't imagine people not liking it.
  • in my honest opinion there's not a pearl jam album that isn't FANTASTIC.

and truthfully, from the 30 second clips, i feel like backspacer will probably fall in my top 3 albums with yield and no code. just a prediction. those clips sound phenomenal.

    2013: Worcester 2, Brooklyn 1 & 2, Hartford
  • I sure have not heard anything that sounds bad yet. Everything I have heard has the
potential to be really good imo. I think the band teamed up with Target for two reasons.
    1) many ten club members need laid. badly
    2) attract more of a female audience to improve the view from the stage
Seriously though I do not see how anyone cannot be excited about the backspacer music, the
backspacer artwork and the energy of the band. I went to the Chicago shows and they were
beyond excellent. I'm just saying if you are negative now you might be the problem.

coming from somebody who is in love with muse and a very harsh pj critic lately, backspacer kills the resistance (muses new album). and i like the resistance too :) be prepared for some good stuff people!

  • Look on the bright side..

I know there was a lot of outrage when this board went Ten Club only, but we won't be getting that rush of trolls here on album release telling us how much the band sucks, hasn't ben good since Ten and so forth.

I contest that there are no trolls on this board. Since it's not a free board, who would pay to troll? I think everyone here is a pretty hardcore fan who is passionate about things that they both like and dislike about PJ. In a "Got Some" thread, I'd probably come off as a blushing fanboy. In a "Fixer" thread, I'd probably come off as the world's biggest troll.

  • There will be disappointed people. There always are. When you love something or someone as big as Pearl Jam you are always in danger of a little bit of letdown. That's why I've avoided listening to all the song snippets—I want to enjoy as much of the album for the first time on the first listen as I can (the only studio tracks I've heard so far are Fixer and Supersonic).

Anyone who declares it among either PJ's "Best" or PJ's "Worst" after only listening a few times is a fool. You have to give these things months (or even years) before you can really rank them. I didn't put "Yield" number one until a good year or two after it came out and I'd had a chance to let it all sink in.

I thought most of that "haven't been good since Ten" garbage died out after No Code. Maybe with the resurgence of the band's image thanks to the likes of Guitar Hero and Rock Band has people wistful for the early days?

It will be an interesting reaction. In one corner you'll have people balking at the new "corporate pop rock" PJ and calling them sellouts. In the other corner you'll have a bunch of jock rockers who think PJ lost it years ago and is making wimpy pop songs now. Me? I'll be enjoying another Pearl Jam album after 13 1/2 years of listening to the band.

I'm not expecting to like it. I don't like the Fixer. I haven't been impressed with the clips. But I promise not to bitch too much or act like life's over or hell's broken loose. It's OK, Pearl Jam can make an album I don't love. At the same time, I had an advance-copy tape of Yield about 2 or 3 weeks before it came out, and it took me about 2 months of having the album before I really liked it. So who knows. I just wish they'd tour more extensively, I don't care if I love the album or not, just wanna go to a show. :)

I dont want negativity about Backspacer, but no matter how much we like it, there'll be a share of people who dont. The Fixer has copped it's fair share of negativity, a song I like but there are people around who've labelled it "shit". I'm sure I'll like Backspacer, like I like all their music, there may be one or two songs on it I don't like so much, but I'll be able to comment further when I've heard the album.

Normally the negativity I see are from people who are huge champions of Riot Act. Of course I could be wrong, I have noticed that trend a lot. I am glad I like it all.
