Insult to my musical tastes

Just having a bit of a moan really.

The other day I was at work, the boss was out so I decided to get some cd's and play them on my computer (whilst working). There were three of us in the office at the time. I played a bit of the following - PJ (Lost Dogs), Tori Amos (Little Earthquakes) and Elbow (The Seldom Seen Kid).

One of my fellow workers tried to shut herself in the filing cabinet and the other told me to turn off the 'music to die to'.

I felt a little sad.

Any suggestions for music to live to?

Lock them all in a room with Starland Vocal Band blaring, Jeremy Piven (in PCU) style.

    That will teach them.

You should have helped her shut herself in the filing cabinet.

  • Pj was good but the rest, amos has her moments but for the most part you need to be a hard core feminist to really appreciate her and the other....well it is a little sad

I used to listen to Led Zeppelin a lot at work. no swear words and good tunes. :D

then again, I'm always at the store on my own and don't think the customers would moan about the music.

try Yield maybe, if you wanna go the PJ route again? maybe make a compilation CD of the cheerier tunes you usually listen to? I've got 3 or 4 of those for work. :)

Think it's too late I may be banned from providing the entertainment! :D

Guess we'll be listening to motown again.

 maybe you can build up their trust on your musical taste again? over time. :D

not that there's anything wrong with motown. 8-)

I wonder what her musical tastes are....you should ask to hear what she thinks is considered "music to live to".

  • i say, pick a 6 song playlist and listen to it over and over and over. if they say anything; just give them a look like... "that was the worst possible thing you could say to me" no words are needed. just the look of you biting their heads off should work good enough. if they dont like it, they can find somewhere else to be.

  • the two ladies that work for me cannot stand the music I listen to (PJ, Foo Fighters, AIC, etc) I listen to it all day in the kitchen while I'm working. When I want them all to get out of the kitchen and they don't get the hint I turn up the volume. That usually sends them running. My store, my music. works like a charm :D

I enjoy them, but I would have to say that they are a little over-blown... :|

Did she file herself under "L" for "Loser"?
Or perhaps, "M" for "Musically Challenged"?

To be honest, you could have played more upbeat stuff. What you had was good, just not as energetic as I would have in the office. Try some Interpol, Franz Ferdinand, or maybe The Gossip if you want music to live to. But then again, what do I know, I listen to all kinds of music to die to on a regular basis. And also lots of techno.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

There's some things suggested that I haven't actually given a go in the privacy of my own home (let alone work), so I definetely give them a try.

It's funny I've often thought that some of the tracks on the 2nd CD of Lost Dogs would be great to lie on a thick rug, in front of a roaring fire, with candles etc and do the opposite to dying to. Guess that's just me.
