NFL Blackouts?

With several games this week in danger of being blacked out locally because of not being sold out, it made me think that I can't blame people for not going.

In my opinion, NFL games are much better on TV than in person... Sure, the tailgating is fun, the stadium atmosphere is cool, but the weather is usually cold and games themselves are so slow. 10 second play, 30 seconds of a huddle and lining up, then 10 seconds of play.... add that to the countless TV timeouts and whistles, you probably see less than 30 minutes of action in a 60 minute game (which is spread out over three and a half hours).

I'd much rather sit on my couch, with much cheaper food and beer, and watch a game in HD. You get all the replays and other game updates, can flip over to other games (on Sundays) and you don't have to wait in line for the bathroom.

Some sports like baseball and hockey are MUCH better in person than on TV, but football isn't one of them.

Nothing beats the atmosphere. I do agree they're better on TV but if it's mine team I'd love to be there. Fortunately I live out of any markets so I don't have to worry about blackouts.

Baseball is much more boring to watch on TV and live. Talk about a lot of wasted time.

Agreed, I love Penn State and Giants football games live. The atmosphere is just awesome. I wouldn't pay to go to a game not of my team though.

I love baseball live and on TV but there are not many like me

I call bullshit. What crappy games are you going to? It's always better to be there...always.

This si equivalent to saying it's better to listen to a Pearl Jam boot at home on your stereo than it is to be at the concert. No comparison.

I wish I had the NFL Package... actually I wish that the package was available on cable systems or the NFL would make individual games available on a pay-per-view basis. I'm a Steeler fan living in upstate NY, I'd gladly pay $20 or whatever to watch the Steelers games every week.

Concert, yes I agree, but not football (in my opinion).

I've been to playoff games, Monday night games and other games... They are fun, and the atmosphere is good, but all things considered, I'd rather be at home.

Football games are awesome to see in person. I love all the tailgating, drinking, etc.., but there are plenty of things that you miss when you aren't watching the game on TV. I probably go to 3-4 Bears games a year and I absolutely love it, but I always make sure to DVR the game to check out all the things I missed. God I'm so pumped the NFL is starting tonight!!!!!

seriously, look in to directv...I've had it since I moved south in 2000 and I've never had a problem...I'm pretty sure if you sign up now, you'll get the NFL package for free...

The NFL package is like High Speed internet...once you have it, you ain't going back...

I have season tix for Detroit Lions. Bad team, but get to watch other teams who play them. I do prefer TV over going in person; however. I love going to the Thanksgiving game. There is a lot more hoopla.

TRUE! On TV you only see what the camera lets you. The Lions are so bad, when I go see them, I get to see and hear what the crowd feels. I get to watch what is going on where I want to see, like on the sidelines.

Going to a baseball game is relaxing and boring. I prefer watching on TV. If we go to see The Detroit Tigers at the ballpark, we know we are going to have a lazy, long, relaxing day.

Would love Direct TV for the NFL Ticket, but it's not really an option in Philly. Because Comcast is based in Philly they have exclusive rights to the Phillies, Flyers and 76ers so if you get Direct TV in Philly, you get no local sports coverage.
