Austin City Limits TV Show info

Well, the show apparently will debut it's 35th season (same as SNL) on October 3rd on PBS. What I found interesting is that PJ will be on and the footage won't be from the festival, but rather their "sweet air conditioned" studio. That's according to a woman named Leslie, who apparently is in the know.

Scroll and read:

sorry if this is info already out there.

I'm going through the October schedule and don't see PJ scheduled. Maybe November? I see Ben Harper, DMB, Kenny Chesney and others but not them.

  • i don't know if you've ever watched ACL on TV before, but it's never festival footage. They're all filmed seperately at some indoor studio
  • The televised ACL is VERY rarely an outdoor performance, it is a performance done for broadcast, hence the studio........smarty :P

Saturday night October 3rd is the date that I have seen. I would hope 10C would be able to reserve some tickets for this and perhaps do a lottery or something but I know it is going to be tough. It's a tiny studio, less than 500 seats from what I understand.

Wow -- this would be awesome to get into...

Of course, it is taking quite a lot to make arrangements just to get to Austin for the 4th!

For the DMB taping they had it on a big screen at Hogg Auditorium on UT campus, I heard there were about 1,000 people there, I was told buy someone that works at the ACL tapings that they will do the same thing for Pearl Jam.

And yes the show is always taped at the studio, not at the festival and I HIGHLY doubt that the 10 Club will have tickets to give away.

this was posted a while ago on the official austin city limits website. ten club will be unlikely to have anything to offer to members for this show. they might, but it is highly HIGHLY unlikely.

you can get more info if you dig around on the acl site regarding tickets, but acl themselves say this will likely be one of the toughest tickets to come by in their history. that's saying a LOT...

Are you saying that they had the DMB taping being played live on the big screen as the show was being taped? And that this might happen for the PJ show? ...Was the screening at Hogg Auditorium free?

  • I emailed 10C last week and they confirmed no way in to the taping from their side of things.

I've been working every connection I have here in town to try and find a way in, but no luck yet. I have it on good authority that Friends of ACL were able to send in their ticket reservations for the performance today.

my advice would be to call KLRU and google their phone number as they are producing the show in Austin.

I don't recall seeing an actual airing date for the PJ taping happening on 10/03 but here it is and the rest of the 09 schedule below.

The schedule for the upcoming season:

October 3, 2009 Dave Matthews Band
    October 10, 2009 Ben Harper and Relentless7
    October 17, 2009 Kenny Chesney
October 24, 2009 Andrew Bird / St. Vincent
    October 31, 2009 M. Ward / Okkervil River
November 7, 2009 Elvis Costello / Band of Heathens
November 14, 2009 Willie Nelson & Asleep at the Wheel
    November 21, 2009 Pearl Jam
  • Taping simulcast is confirmed - http://www.austin360.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/music/entries/2009/09/23/here_are_the_acts_at_acl_fest.html

Still working hard to find a way in for the show. If anyone has any leads, I'd be forever in your debt and could offer up some killer posters in gratitude.

"Pearl Jam tapes an episode at 8 p.m. Oct. 3. Doors at 7 p.m. It will be simulcast at Hogg Auditorium. For tickets to simulcast go to austincitylimits.org/blog; information will be posted later in the week."

I know there are only about 320 seats to the actual taping in the studio. How cool would it be if the 10C was able to get about 75 pairs of tickets to the taping for Austin 10C Members?

It sounds like Hogg Auditorium is going to be used for the "Space Available" tickets that are usually given out to the public. Not sure where the big time donors aka "Friends of KLRU" fall for this one. I doubt they would be shuffled off to Hogg to see a live simulcast. Either way, at least we have a shot. I will be there one way or another, even if I am just left standing outside straining to hear something come through the walls of the studio. Having the Band back in my hometown for the first time in nearly 15 years is exciting for sure!

This is very much like what happened for the Letterman aftershow in '06. I was at the actual Letterman taping and immediately after we were led out and all of the lucky 10C members were ushered in. I was bummed that I couldn't stay to see the after taping concert but hearing it through the studio doors and seeing the faces of all the lucky ones was a pretty cool thing!
