I had the extreme pleasure of seeing Alice in Chains last nite in NYC at Irving Plaza. Holy Shit what a great nite. They headlined the show with no opening band. They played for just about an hour and a half and they truly ripped the place up! I never got to see them when Layne was alive but i sure as hell am glad i didnt miss out last nights show.

If you have the chance to see them in your home town, I strongly suggest it!

I have posted about this many times, but here it goes again.

I HAD the chance in 2006...had my ticket and everything. They cancelled THE DAY BEFORE the show, with no reschedule, or even postponed date. Really depressing...would've been a phenomenal show. It was a sort of sentiment for my friend. His uncle who had passed was the one responsible for exposing AIC to him...he went home that night and I think he secluded himself in his room for a day or two...

Hey Alice in Chains, Salt Lake City wants a FUCKNIG MAKE UP DATE!!!!
    7/2/06 - Denver, CO
    6/12/08 - Tampa, FL
    8/23/09 - Chicago, IL
9/28/09 - Salt Lake City, UT (11 years too long!!!)
    9/03/11 - East Troy, WI - PJ20 - Night 1
    9/04/11 - East Troy, WI - PJ20 - Night 2
  • I went last night and OMG they blew me away. I am so happy that they are back. Eventhough is not with Layne...but William def. has talent. When they started playing Angry Chair...the GA sections went nuts.
Would was fantastic seeing it live.
Nutshell was beautiful...Jerry mentioned it was to celebrate what they've done and for the memory of their friend Layne.

When the guys left before the encore...everyone was chanting A-I-C! A-I-C!
    lol

and then they came out to play 3 more song.

I took some pictures and some video clips which I will post later.

Set list for the Irving Plaza show:

    Rain When I Die
    Again
Check My Brain (New song, which I really liked)
    Them Bones
    Dam That River
A Looking In View (New song)
    We Die Young
    Nutshell
    Down In A Hole
    God Am
    Acid Bubble
    Angry Chair
Man In The Box (Everyone went nuts)
Would (Love this classic one :)

    Encore:
    Sludge Factory
    No Excuses
Rooster (this one totally Kicked Ass)

Met some cool people. I met a girl Rebecca and she hooked me up with a pass to see them today at the PC Richard & son Theater.
They played 5 songs acoustic. and they were joking around, just having some fun eventhough they looked tired since they've been playing a few shows before lastnight and today.

Hearing their new songs just makes me want to have their album the soon as possible.
    Can't wait for Sept. 29

Thought this would have been about their album 'live' which is frickin' awesome.

But yeah they are great :D Shame at 4/5 shows i could barely hear William.
  • The Boston show was amazing. The crowd still drowns William out occasionally, but it's much better than when he first started touring with Jerry's solo band and he wasn't nearly loud enough in the mix. I do enjoy songs like "Down In A Hole," where the audience is singing, but William holds out the line "But my wings have been so denied" much, much longer than any fan can.

I ended up with a pick from William (who we had met back in the Jerry/Comes With The Fall days), my wife got two picks, and a setlist, and my brother got a pick and Sean's drum head. The set was the same as NY, the new material sounded fantastic, and "God Am" was a great surprise. I'd love to see them play some larger venues to reach a wider audience, but I'm so grateful for the chance to see them is a small place like the Paradise Rock Club.
  • i just got front row center (behind the pit) for their show in dallas. can't wait. one of my biggest regrets was not seeing AIC back in '96 when they opened up for KISS. i was living in st. louis and that turned out to be their last show EVER with layne.

i was close! haha second to last show ;)
  • I saw them last night in Indianapolis. I enjoyed the performance very much. I did feel that the over all tempo for the songs was slowed down vs the studio versions. (not that this took away from the performance.)

The setlist as best I can remember:

    Rain When I Die
    Again
    Check My Brain
    Them Bones
    Dam That River
    Nutshell (dedicated to Layne)
    No Excuses
    A Looking in View
    We Die Young
    Acid Bubble
    Angry Chair
    Man in the Box

    Encore
It Aint Like That (A personal fav. Plus, when this song came on, I started looking around for kyra sedgwick... wonder if anyone gets that reference)
    Would?
    Rooster

Glad to see these guys finally.

"It Aint Like That" Wow! nice one. Hahahaha @ looking around for Kyra S.
Any pics? I have some but I still need to upload them to my pc.
  • No, I didn't get any pics. I've grown tired of going to shows where sometimes it's OK for cameras, and then other times it's not, so you have to walk all the way back to your car to drop your camera off. Too much hassle for me. I just don't bring them anymore :D
  • Irving Plaza (NY) show was awesome.
I liked that they had no opener.
The sound was really great, really thumping.
Hilarious when Sean Kinney came out front before the encore to comment on the rock cliche of the "encore"
"We know that you know that we know that they know that he knows that everybody knows when they leave the house lights off, the band is gonna come back and play some more" or something to that effect.
"Looking In View" sounds way better live
  • Can anyone tell me for the seattle shwo who is the opening act and also from the other shows what time did AIC go on and what time did they finish at about.
  • I seriously cant wait for next weeks seattle show at the moore. this will be my first AiC show and im so pumped for it! i know they will tear the roof off at the moore
  • Can anyone tell me for the seattle shwo who is the opening act and also from the other shows what time did AIC go on and what time did they finish at about.
there's no opening band, i think. they didnt announce any and knowing that its just been them in previous shows in this tour it will most likely just be them.
  • EDIT: Leaked for sure.

hell yeah! I was there too and it was badass for sure. I was really suprised at how good of a singer william duvall was...with all do respect to layne, it's a shame that they haven't been able to play for so long. Heavy, tight, and fun as shit. They seemed like they were having a blast up there. favorite part was when duvall said,"we'll be back....this is only the begining."
