Readers’ Rock List: School Songs

Last week, to mourn the end of summer but honor the nationwide pursuit of higher education, we asked for readers’ favorite School Songs. The beginning of September may mark the onset of a new school year, but Alice Cooper’s summertime classic “School’s Out” is still tops, barely edging Van Halen’s ode to sexy chalk wielders “Hot For Teacher.” Tracks from Nirvana, the Beach Boys and Paul Simon also made the Rock List, which you can check out below:

    ummm, what other school song does PJ have in their catalogue that would be better than "Jeremy"? I can't think of any songs involving school off the top of my head.

    Yea maybe they shouldn't even have been included in this list. But if they just had to put PJ in the list, how about "Education?"

    Lame. I thought from the subject title that Rolling Stone asked Pearl Jam to put together a list or mix of songs, and it was titled Back to School since school recently started for many. That would have been a lot better.
    words seem so out of place.

    Totally agree! "Education" would be a much better choice!
    But this list is lacking besides... no Chuck Berry? "School Days"?

    Thats FUNNY! Jeremy is the best choice, IMO.

    Get it?! He shoots people in school.

    Deftones' "Back To School" and Soul Coughing's "Bus To Beelzebub" should have been considered.

    Anyone who chooses Jeremy for anything is an asshole! Typical Rolling Stone writing! That's why Eddie wiped his ass with that magazine! Yea it's a great message for kids in school shooting yourself in front of a classroom!

    Uh, the point of the list was just to name a bunch of songs which either have "school" in the title or which are at least somewhat about school. Rolling Stone does a list like that every week, it's just a fun thing the readers get to vote on.

    You guys take things too seriously.
