Peak of their powers?

First off i would like to say this is my first attempt at a thread and clearly this is just my opinion but i would love to hear what other people think.
Is Pearl Jam truly at the peak of their powers in 2009? Sure one could argue that in 91/92 the band and the music were all about power and emotion and there were great albums and shows in the next 6 or 7 years but to me it wasn't until 98 with the release of Yield and an incredible tour that the band truly became comfortable with themselves and really started to hit their stride. In 2000 with the release of Binaural they embarked on a massive tour and solidified themselves as the greatest touring band in the world. 2003 brought another good album and great tour but i truly believe that in 2005 they reached the peak of their powers. With the release of Lost Dogs and a small but facemelting/mindblowing tour, that was the pinnacle for me.Vancouver 05 was a truly epic night in my life. 2006 saw another good album followed by a great tour and 07/08 saw small tours as well. We are a two weeks away from a new album and so far with the few shows they have played this year( awesome setlists/fantastic reviews) and for myself the anticipation of the two Seattle shows and also Vancouver, i have a feeling that 2009 just may end up as Pearl Jams greatest year ever. My fanatic obsession with the band these days is a little scary but hey there's alot worse things i could be addicted to.

    You apparently missed it.
  • I agree with the OP, it's a great time to be PJ fans, and it seems that these guys are very confortable with themselves... more than ever! :)

They are certainly playing very well these days and they do seem very comfortable. I can agree with what you are saying, but if I can point at one area where I think they were better at in the 90's - creativity. This covers songwriting, jamming/imroves & tags.

  • For fans I think they keep getting better. People often think of the early 90s as their peak, but can you imagine if we only had Ten and Vs? Or even Vitalogy too. They would be nothing in comparison, even if those are your top three albums.
  • I agree that 2005 was the year they started doing their best shows. im just going by boots though
