i would think tomorrow since don't most advertising campaigns begin in the sunday paper?

The consumer has a short term memory though.. I would think it would start airing the Sunday of the release, maybe Saturday before..

Well, 100% of the time I hear "The Fixer" I hear "buy it at Target exclusively". So much for them selling it thru Mom & Pop stores. ...even if they do sell it thru M&P's, they're dissuading people from going there to get it from all the press to only go to Target.

  • I doubt there will be that much commercials for the album. Pearl Jam hardly ever promote the shit out of their albums.

They made that Cameron Crowe video exclusively to use as a Target promo.

I think PJ is comfortable promoting albums any way they can and has been since after No Code.

    AOL Promotion for Avocado

The Fixer promo (but it looks like a commercial to me... i mean, they paid the crowd to be there)

    Plus SNL, Letterman, etc.

And they sort of just laid it out there for people to find. I havent seen it on TV yet.

Compared to other mainstream bands, PJ hardly advertises themselves.

When you say "promote", are you referring to their promotions on tv, radio, internet, or are you referring strictly to tv commercials?

...and I think they're gonna wait until the album is almost out before any Target commercials are played.

Am I wrong to assume that the Fixer video on the homepage is the Cameron Crowe video that will be used in the Target ad? Edited of course to promote the album and shortened for a TV spot.

I'm assuming that too. ...especially that the crowd looks 0% like any show crowd I've ever seen. Looks like they are the ones they paid to be there for the commercial shoot.

  • Well...there is a good bit of promotion going on at ESPN...they've been playing snippets of a couple songs to go along with highlights. Look for there to be a commercial this Thursday night during the Steelers and Titans game. Then you will see little subtle things pop up all over the place.

Oh, I forgot, also with the Ten-Redux there was a whole series of uses of their music on CSI on CBS...

Pearl Jam uses TV media like no other band to push people to buy their music. It's a 180 from how it was in the early to mid 90's.

Not sure when the TV spots will hit, but I'm fairly certain that the Target weekly add coming out Sept. 13th will mention the album being available Sept 20th.

No matter how you look at it, this is a MAJOR deal for Target to have something like this exclusive, and with it coming out on Sunday the 20th, I see them wanting to promote it in advance of the weekly ad on the 20th.

I will be combing the independent music stores just to see where (and if) I can find the album. I won't give Target my money. Just for fuck's sake.
