Anyone know how to deal with UPS?

Goddam bastards are charging me a $50 'brokerage fee' on a $100 LP that a very kind board member hooked me up with. I've had many things shipped to me in Canada from the US and never has there been such an exorbitant fee.
They say it's standard for them but it's obviously not for all shipping methods. Anyone have any experience with such an issue? I need this fee waived.

This is UPS's info on the matter. I'm not sure this clarifies anything. Maybe a different shipping type needs to be selected? UPS Worldwide instead of standard? I don't know. I would think if you contact their customer service and tell them your situation, they could guide you to the most cost effective options. :)
  • you need to get the seller to declare a lesser value........and as far an insurance goes, UPS will never give you $100 for a 'damaged' vinyl...sorry, but it's the truth....

I think if it's marked as a "gift", there's not taxes. I shipped an expensive painting from the US to Canada, and they did pay tax on that, but when I sent them a gift book a few months later, they requested that I write "gift" on the box or something to avoid the taxes on that.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

This is normal and why I refuse to deal with UPS anymore. I bought a presentation case and extra pages from Jerry's Artarama. They shipped the pages and case seperate, I had to pay 2 seperate $50 brokerage fees as well as tax on both shipments. In total, I spent $140 in UPS fees/tax.

Thanks for all the info. I'll try to convince them after the weekend.
Still, it looks as if I'm going to have to eat the cost and chalk it up to a lesson learned.

    Lame.
