So I was surfing around on youtube and found a video for The Fixer. Have people seen this already? Has Pearl Jam actually agreed to a lip singing stage dancing video. I like it, but it's a little shocking to me. This is there first real video since Jeremy, and I must say it is also there best. The more I listen to this song the more I like it.

    Lip singing?

Haven't they had to do that with every video they've made? Even Flow was a studio cut over live singing.. Jeremy, Life Wasted..

The Fixer is an actual live recording. They did it in like a dozen takes. Cameron Crowe may have sliced different cuts together, but its still pretty live and Ed was definitely belting out lyrics.

AAAAHHHH, I forgot about the Life Wasted Video. Wow, The Fixer sounds really good if it's a live take.

It does. At first I thought it was the studio cut, but there's little subtleties that give it away. He either nailed it or Crowe pasted together all the parts he nailed from the different takes.

Neither. The vocals were all re-recorded in a studio. As evident by Eddie's lead vocals and Eddie's background vocals - oh and the keyboard parts in the song too...but Boom was not present for the video shoot.

It's a combo of live mic's to capture the sound and studio recordings of vocals.

How do you know all this? Do you think they just used a different studio take from when they were doing The Fixer for the album?

It's a combination of studio and live, so it's anything goes. Whoever did the audio engineering (likely PJ's Brett Eliason along with Cameron's team) had access to all tracks, so by trying to film a video of a "live performance" you would want tracks to adhere to the look, and feel live, combine whatever you need to combine to have all of those elements work for the video.

    um,ok.

they've made multiple videos since Jeremy...and i would believe most music videos are lip synched to some degree (Jeremy surely was).

, lol, LBC and World Wide Suicide has a video? Wow I guess i been losing touch with reality.....although I haven't been on here for a very long time until recently. Unfortunately....living in Maine you have to stay in tune with Pearl Jam on your own. They are never on the radio or anything...kinda sucks.
  • For some reason I had MTV 2 on the other night at 2AM and THE FIXER VIDEO CAME ON. I was shocked.

It was on again this morning on MTV 2, I was amazed too!

It was during the UK Rock Chart Top 10 - they showed it in the 'Future Hit' section towards the end of the countdown. The announcer bloke called them "legendary American Rockers Pearl Jam" ;)

Great seeing Pearl Jam vids being shown over here :D

When I'd seen the video previously on You Tube I'd thought it was lip synced, but after seeing it this morning on MTV2 it was definitely live vocal.

I caught the 'Alive' video on Kerrang channel a couple of weeks ago and, although it was still the original B&W video, they'd replaced the soundtrack with a live version and it was titled "Alive (live)" - they could have done that with "The Fixer" too, called it "The Fixer (live)" so it's obvious about not being lip synced.

  • I really hate Ed's vocals on the studio version in the first part of the song because he sounds stuffed up and flat. I wish this video was the studio version, lol sounds SO MUCH BETTER and no fade out :D!
