haha let me know your thoughts!

The First week of the NFL season maybe the hardest to bet on all year. Not that it’s going to stop me. There is a lot of intriguing match ups with tough spreads throughout both divisions. It makes it especially hard to pick with zero stats to help you or at least tip you over the edge one way or the other. Let’s get week one’s thoughts started!

Tennessee versus Pittsburg opens up the season with the Steelers laying 5 to the Titans. Sure the Titans were excellent all year in 2008, but do you really think Kerry Collins has another full season in him? I don’t, I like V Dubs coming in to finish the year for Tennessee. AND they lose the dominating force of Albert Haynesworth on D. I like the Steelers here, the defending champs at home to open the season, this is a no brainer. Might even tease this little guy…..
Pittsburg -5 all day

The next game is very tough match up. I for one have never seen Pennington as a reliable number 1 guy. He proved me wrong last year, but he won’t this year. Matty Ice, the Burner Turner, Rowdy Rowdy White (it just came to me!) and the rest of Falcons régime are going to open the season with a big W in the Georgia dome. Are they going to cover 4? I think so, I think so, I think so. Yep, talked myself into it.
Falcons -4 book it

I love this next game for two reasons, (1) McNabb is set to have one of his best statistical season in the NFL, he finally has a team around him on offense (2) Mike Vick makes his Eagle debut on the road against a bunch of angry Carolina fans. This game will be the most entertaining of the day. Look for Vick to get a few touches but have 1 or more outstanding plays with his legs.
Eagles -1

(Shaking his head) the Denver Broncos. What can I say about the Broncos that hasn’t already been said about Lindsay Lohans career. Rookie head coach, questions at running back, and I’m not even going to mention Orton at the helm. I just can’t see them beating this quality Bengal team. Ya I said it Quality Bengal team! Look for CP to have a humongous year. I missed him by one pick in fantasy this year and my ass is still chapped about it. I think if Ochocinco keeps the shenanigans to a minimum and Henry stays out of the slammer these guys could be dangerous.
Bengals -4. Palmer throws for 300 yards

I’m sick of picking the favorite so here comes and underdog. The NY football Jets with 4.5 points over the Texans. Markey Sanchez proves he is a leader keeps it close in the 4th. Quick side note on Sanchez he was 5 for 5 with a TD in his last preseason game. Leon Washington makes something happen on special teams, and one big play on D for the Jets makes this game a nail biter. Not sure if the Jets can pull it off, but I like them with 4.5. Plus I just don’t like Houston, or Matt Schaub.

Here is the game I will be watching (mostly), Vikes Browns. How can you not watch “The Favre Experiment?” Throw in Adrian Peterson and this is the definition of must see TV. I’m even excited to watch Brady Quinn. This could be a great game; it could be a blow out? I like Favre’s experience to show here, I am expecting him to go 14 for 22 with 200 yards a TD and a pick, a good solid showing but nothing too spectacular. Quinn is the real wild card here; he is facing a very tough Vikings defense and could very easily stink up the joint. If the Browns stay in this he must protect the ball and make the most out of every possession. On the Flip side if Favre throws up a stinker of game they will already want to have his head in Minnesota. No worries always bet on Brett in adversity.
Vikings -4

I can’t decide what to do on this one. I probably wouldn’t touch it. But hey its house money and the Jags are a really annoying team. Let’s be honest they are always good, and never great. Garrard is never and I repeat NEVER going to be Super Bowl quarterback. Good player but still not great and that makes all the difference. Peyton has some new faces around him so it’s hard to love the pick giving 7 to the Jags. Did I mention the Jags are annoying? Go with Peyton he is at home.

Indy -7

How do you pick a team when you don’t even know who their starting QB will be? Am I really going Lions over Saints? You betcha! Betcha should be a word. I’m assuming Stafford gets the start here, not that it would have changed my pick. It’s a new Lions team with hope and short memory. Last year is in the past and they are going to lose this game, But not by 13! It will take Breese a few games before his offense is cooking. If this game was in October I might take the Saints.

Lions +13

Now I don’t condone betting for or against ones favorite team. It leads to heart break, it just does. I’m a Niners man through and through so this is a tough pick. I like the Niners plus 6.5, I think? We always tend to play the Cardinals well not matter what the venue. This might be another game I wouldn’t touch. But if you’re gonna (gonna should also be a word, who has time to type going to) make me I’m going red and gold baby! Shawn Hill isn’t flashy or fun but he’s a winner and so is Singletary.
Niners +6.5

Week one is full of great match ups! The Skins against the G-men should be a knock down drag out affair. None of these players like each other and they are division rivals in probably the most competitive division in football. Eli is supposed to have a great year as they are the NFC Super Bowl favorites right now. I started writing this paragraph hoping I could figure out who liked. I still got nothing. Without Eli having Cheddar Bob to pass to I don’t know how good the Giants can be. I’m going Skins with the spread. But I don’t love it.
Skins +6.5

Quite possibly the biggest barn burner of the weekend is the Rams versus the Seahawks. A division rivalry game set in the worst division in the NFL. This is the complete opposite of the previous game. Who cares who wins this? Is anyone excited to watch either of these teams this year? Im not that’s for sure. I’m going Hawks here based on one thing only, my love of Seattle tunes. If that isn’t great logic I don’t know what is?
Hawks -7.5

The Cowboys look great on paper this year (except at WR) they have the main core returning, a new stadium and a QB ready to move in to the upper echelon of players at that position. And on the flip side that Bucks have… well I can only think of a couple players on the team so that’s not a good sign. The Boys cover and look good to start the season.
Cowboys -5.5

This is a very hard game to call. The Green Bay Packers versus the new look Chicago Bears. Cutlers debut in black is going to be a ruff one at Lambeau field. If this game is at Chicago I would go with them for sure. But its not it’s at Lambeau one of the most difficult places to play in the NFL and the Packers are just too good this year. I think they cover… BEARLY!
Packers -3.5

I hate picking a team giving up 10.5 I really do. But not if that team has Tom Brady making his first appearance in the regular season after being out all of last year on it. Not to mention this is the Monday night game where Brady always shines. Brady will have a HUGE game, boy am I glad he is captain of my fantasy team. The Bills have not scored on offense this preseason. Read that last line again and tell me how you don’t pick New England and the under. Which if you are wondering is 48.
New England -10.5

The Charges are just too good for the Raiders in the second Monday night game. Chargers are the trendy pick (again) by many of the “experts”. I still don’t think they are quite there yet. There is no way Rivers is going to lose to Oakland I don’t care where the game is played or how many times Al Davis throws bombs down the fields. Rivers and LT are simply too much for the Raiders on Monday night. Chargers win big and look great doing it.
Chargers -8.5

These are my picks; take them for what they are worth. Which is nothing, well unless they win? Then they are worth however much you bet on them. Your welcome!
